Manny_Pacquiao Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 top of the list, and rightly so. tendulkar has played some incredible innings in SA. 1. 169 in 1996. 2 and a half hours of unbelievable batting against donald, pollock, mcmillan, etc. that was ended by an equally unbelievable catch. 2. 155 in 2001. upper cut after upper cut after upper cut...they had no answer. 3. 146 in 2010. steyn vs tendulkar, test cricket at its best. cut down a 114 run deficit with harbhajan singh to make the game even after steyn ripped through the other end after lunch. there is also the 111 in 1991, though ididnt see it.
kabira Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 that 169 was out of top draw. He and Azhar just treated SA bowling as if they were minnows...For me probably best partnership of all time in terms of quality.
saneindian Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 The 111 in 1992 is an under rated knock. 111 out of 227, on a very tough pitch which had a lot of uneven bounce, with Donald at his fastest
Desi Cartman Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 that 169 was out of top draw. He and Azhar just treated SA bowling as if they were minnows...For me probably best partnership of all time in terms of quality. Ya I think we avoided the follow on thanks to that partnership but then Got pwned in the second innings Sent from iPhone using Tapatalk

You have only talked about the 100s. 1)He scored 44 in the Jo'burg test in 2006. That pitch was spitting venom and he and Dravid took us to a respectable score with a partnership. Later it was Ganguly who had hogged the limelight, but he looked far-far more assured than Dravid and he was laying shots all around. 2) He scored 63 in Durban in the same series, again on a tough wicket. That was also of the top drawer. This was when he was out of form in the ODI series. But the problem with Sachin in previous tours to SA had been that he would score 1 100 and rest were single digit scores. This time he had rectified it.

Malcolm Merlyn Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 After Lara and now Ponting' date=' Pakistan needs a new adopted son[/quote'] They have adopted Kallis and may adopt Sanga..... If not they can always argue that Inzy the Aloo was the real deal.
zep1706 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Remove Durban and Sachin averages a whopping 58.27 in South Arfica, which is extraordinary. Kingsmead brought down his avergae considerably. He has scored only 112 runs in 8 innings in Durban :( http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/35320.html?class=1;filter=advanced;ground=173;ground=174;ground=508;ground=902;ground=949;home_or_away=2;host=3;orderby=default;template=results;type=allround

Beats the whole point of the statistic
zen Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Both of them have similar avg in SA , but Ponting plays at a much higher SR  This is another case of fans jumping the gun based on a few decimal points difference (to this point in time)

Seriously what is wrong with you ?
zen Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 And Tendulkar faced far superior bowlers. Seriously what is wrong with you ? I don't think so .... Last time, I checked when a team has two top class bowlers playing, Tendulkar's avg goes down compared to some of his peers
surajmal Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 And Tendulkar faced far superior bowlers. Seriously what is wrong with you ? Kannada ki sardi ne iska dimag kharab kar diya hai.

zen Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Did Ponting play Donald at his peak in SA or Donald and Pollock combination ? Are you implying that Ponting at his peak will avg less than Tendulkar at his peak when playing Donald and Pollock at his peak, when Ponting is known to be a good player of fast bowling cool! And if that were the case, why celebrate NOW when Tendulkar is only 0.39 runs ahead :P
