Sid Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Collecting cricketers flash cards that used to come with centre fresh(chewing gum).Man I loved it.Dont know where they are now,but I must have collected 100-150 cards and many were of same player :cantstop:.I used to trade them with friends as well ,that was fun.

I remember one with Gavaskar playing the perfect straight drive and another of Kapil's bowling. We got theose once we collected the entire complement of the pictures found under the Thumsup bottle caps..exciting! Some of the pictures used to be rare..like Gus Logie's We had to network with a lot of friends to get the rare ones. :)

I remember one with Gavaskar playing the perfect straight drive and another of Kapil's bowling. We got theose once we collected the entire complement of the pictures found under the Thumsup bottle caps..exciting! Some of the pictures used to be rare..like Gus Logie's We had to network with a lot of friends to get the rare ones. :) I might still have my collection of cricket star clippings from newspaper.. will check next time I visit home. As for bottle caps, we used to make - how to describe it - two holes in the center, then a thread loop through it and make it spin by winding/unwinding the thread, it used to spin fast enough to cut through paper/wood.

I remember having 2 of the coke flicker books,one in which Gangu hitting a six to Retard and other in which Srinath bowling out a Bangla batsman.

It so happened that the match got canceled for some reason and instead of going home, a couple of us went to watch Khoon Bhari Maang - the 12-3 was sold out so we went for the 3-6. My father happened to be near my school around 5 and thought he might as well pick me up. Of course when he got there he didn't find any one from my usual friends around he got a bit worried but went home to see if I was already back. When I finally got home around 6:30 and described in vivid details the match and my performance(always downplay your performance in these situations lest they get brought up at some inconvenient time later), he told me that he was looking for me on the same ground where my team had just "lost a match"! Anyhow, I got quite a scolding that day and to this day all of us have quite a laugh about how Khoon Bhari Maang nearly led to Khoon in my Maang. :haha::haha: It is funny how too often we would go to a theatre only to find the movie was sold out but rather than returning, which we never did, we always waited or went to a different show. Also interesting how, atleast in Bihar, entire movie show was done in 10 bucks. 6 rupiah ka ticket, box would be 8 :haha: , 1 rupiah cycle stand and 2 rupiah samosa, cold drink was expensive even back then. And of course all the threatres had old style pankha hanging from the ceiling. The ones who started A/C would proudly claim on their posters - watanukulit :agree:

Although your focus was on Anita Raj, CA saab, I will focus on the song since its one of my favorites. a) The song has been written by Gulzar and one of the few occassions when Gulzar teamed up with Laxmi Pyaare. This was the first movie of JP Dutta and the desert footage drew rave reviews. Although the movie was a star studded affair it was Mithun who ran away with most accolodates with his Koi Shaq. b) The song itself draws a lot from the original composition by Amir Khusro Jihaal-e-Miskin. Jihaale-e-Muskin mukon tagaaful doraaye nainaa bataaye batiyaan. The first line is Persian, the second is Brijbhaasa. If that does not explain the Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb I dont know what does? On an aside note as fascinating it is to folks like Gulzar keep alive a song that was written say 700-800 years ago, what does it say of us as a nation that we have not kept alive Amir Khusro? Ghulam was Aamir's movie.

A tailpiece here Veer, the song Chaap Tilak Sab cheene mose is sung by Lata and Asha Bhonsle. And what a crescendo the two create! Absolutely difficult to say who is better of the two..can you differentiate between the two?
