Is Zak fit or its just desperation from our selectors?

Why didn't he test himself in domestic tourneys if he is actually fit for australia tour? He is our leading bowler, but it would be annoying to c him break down again in the middle of a test match.:((

he is going to play 2 ranji matches (from 29th Nov and the next one fro 6th dec) before going to Australia. If needed, has the option of playing another Ranji match (from 13th Dec). Am sure Zaheer himself and the team management will not take any risks this time.

ZK is a class act. Probably best indian pacer ever. Magnificent bowler. Key to us becoming No 1 test team. So when someone like him has a chance of playing, you take him, even if it means naming 1 more in squad. He is class and even at 95% fit must play

zak is picked as the 18th guy in the team and therefore has not taken up a spot of any other guy on the team... and only when he proves his fitness in two ranji games after that will he travel with the team to australia... and if he is fit we cant afford not to play him...

Personally I don't think he will be fit enough for Test cricket now, but the selectors are right to take the chance especially given the dire alternatives. Unlike England, this time his selection is provisional on him proving his fitness - that way the team management knows in advance that they may have to go into the series without him rather than believing him to be the spearhead and planning everything around him, only for him to limp off a few overs into the first Test.

All our planning for the Aussie series has to be wth the assumption that Zak isn't going to be there. If he can play a test or two, great. Can't afford to have another nightmare like England.

Zak's track record not on his side. He has never regained full fitness whenever he had injury cloud over him before a series. Plus he has never completed one full tour of Aus ever and recently (over the last 3-4 years) he has hardly gone through a series injury free. Most probably Zak will be left out or get injured and someone else will have to replace him.

Sadly true. But who will be the replacement?

Could be Sreesanth. At this point our fast bowling cupboard is pretty much bare and no automatic selections come to mind.
He is himself injured right now, apparently a career threatening toe injury. The likely replacements would be one out of Mithun, Pankaj Singh, Vinay Kumar, Unadkat, RP Singh (at least now he is match fit and not on a vacation) or Irfan Pathan. If the selectors have been following doestic cricket, even Gony.

What I saw of Unadkat in SA is enough for me. At least RP gives me some semblance of hope that he might take some wkts. Unadkat doesn't even provide that comfort, plus last time we toured Aus in 2008 RP bowled really well at Perth to win us the test.
