Second season blues for bowlers in Domestic Cricket

Sudeep Tyagi, 2007-08 season, 42 wickets@22, not much thereafter Dhawal Kulkarni 2008-09 season, 49 wickets@22, not much thereafter Abhimanyu Mithun 2009-10 season, 52 wickets@23, Hasn't reached those highs again Bhagav Bhatt 2010-11 season, 52 wickets@23, struggling this season Deepak Chahar 2010-11 season, 40 wickets@21, struggling this season So many talented bowlers have burst onto the scene in their debut season recently, made headlines, some of them have even made it to the national side after their first season, but all of them have had a tough struggle post their moments of glory. What could be the reason? They get found out? Lack of motivation? Complacency? Unable to handle the stardom? Does a non existent system which can help them work on their weaker areas also make it worse for them? Your thoughts?

may be becuase they are Hyped to the top by some Xperts :winky: same happening this year too...we are seeing Xperts trying to build a new pool of pisssst bowlers ..... People has to give atleast 2/3 seasons to prommising bowlers rather than hyping from first day.. I still remember the hype surrounding Chahar last year....even the guy gave interview saying except for few Batsmen rest of them are similer to what he bowled at under 19 level and he dont feel any prressure..thats after last season...wonder what his response now...

Tyagi and Kulkarni careers have been blighted by injuries unfortunately stagnating their development.Tyagi has been a big disappointment this season particularly his pace has dropped down a significantly. Charar played most of his matches last year against Plate league teams no surprise he is struggling a lot more this year.Also read that (in Match reports )Rajastan fielders have dropped a large number of catches this season compared to last season.So perhaps he may be a tad unlucky.

Here is one theory I have When young guns come in for their first season they are raring to go and go all out with their pace and skills. at club and lower levels they are used to dominating and getting wickets and thats what they go for. then they encounter Flat pitches, grinding opposition batsman, Injuries and that fire goes away somewhere. I am afraid even if we let Guys like Yadav and Aaron spend seasons in FC cricket they will get jaded. we need to system to groom young fast bowlers and actually take them to a higher level in terms of their fitness, skills and pace. Currently we have very few senior pace mentors ( they themselves are guys worn out by the system and the better fast bowlers would be playing for India)

well said......allowing 2 to 3 seasons on indian pitches will dent the confidence of the pace bowlers so badly that they will become line and length bowlers and waiting for wickets to fall rather than earning them........thanks god umesh and varun played in plate league

INdeed. Its spinners too , Bhatt and probably to a lesser extent Delhis Mishra to name another. Srinivas of TN. Though those two are very young still.
