J P K Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Veteran Indian batsman Rahul Dravid was on Saturday named captain of the Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals, replacing Australian spin legend Shane Warne who quit the IPL after the fourth edition earlier this year. "...gotta make another huge announcement, The New Captain fr Rajasthan Royals..Proud 2 have RAHUL DRAVID head the Team this season. Yipee," tweeted the franchise's co-owner Shilpa Shetty. "So its Official now! The "WALL" it is;)Congratulations Rahul, am sure u will make us all very proud at RR..Go Royals," she added. The fifth edition of the Twenty20 league will be played from April 4 to May 27 next year. The 38-year-old Dravid, who was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore team to start with, was bought by the Rajasthan team for $500,000 in the players' auction before the start of IPL 4 this year. Rajasthan were without a captain after Warne announced his retirement from the IPL in May this year. The 42-year-old Warne, who coached and captained Royals since the first edition in 2008, is currently playing in the Australian Big Bash Twenty20 Tournament for the Melbourne team. Dravid was reasonably successful in his debut season for the Royals this year, scoring 343 runs at an average of 31 in 12 matches. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/ipl-2011/news/Dravid-named-new-Rajasthan-Royals-captain/articleshow/10969964.cms
ViruRulez Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 A good decision both in terms of choice as well as in terms of positive publicity and fan support. Dravid has become a far better T20 player since the last two IPLs and it is right choice for sure.
G_B_ Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Watson should have been made the captain what odds on Watson playing in the IPL season? he is so injury prone and important to Aus that i think they will have big issues if he plays in the IPL. I think Dravid is a sensible choice considering he will play all the games and is super fit. Dont think Royals will make the knockouts though. I dont expect Watson to play much part in their campaign.
yoda Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Happy for RD although I don't see their talent level helping him and the team to any kind of success.
pensionplan Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Good to see RD getting Shilpa's endorsement. That is very important.
zen Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Good choice .... unless you have an overseas player w/ known for his captaincy skills, the Indian equivalent in experience should get the job
bulbul Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Wrong decision ...Unnecessary pressure on his head...also Team balance is not good
carnish Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Rahul is a great player and this selection is a testament to that... i am sure he will lead the Royals with a lot of pride and take them to the level of success that they got in the inagural tournament..
Pagalpanti Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Should've rather made Watson, Dravid didn't have a good stint with the RCB.
Magneto Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Good to see RD getting Shilpa's endorsement. That is very important. :hysterical::hysterical:
