3 years? No.. Samsung galaxy nexus doesn't get 4.4 update because products support periods was only for 18 months.
Galaxy Nexus hasn't got it right now but I'm sure it will get it soon. KitKat has been made to be compatible with devices with lower specs so IMO Galaxy Nexus will definitely get it and even some mid range phones from Samsung/LG etc may get in a few months.

you did not get it nexus is not brand its a feature that you get all the support from google it is phone which shows how android is suppose to work and gets all the updates first on first day and there is big difference between 4.2 and 4.4 and there is bigger difference if you consider that nexus at end of its life will be running software of 2015 (what ever version it called ) maybe 5.0 or 6.0 but these other phone's wont.
I understand that. This factor plus the small difference in battery isn't worth 15K or 85% increase in price imo. And I do not think difference between 4.2 and 4.4 will be that big for most users in terms of betterment.

It was officially announced by Google that "Samsung Galaxy Nexus won't get 4.4" gnex1-1383246792.pnghttp://www.zdnet.com/no-kitkat-for-samsungs-galaxy-nexus-its-too-old-for-android-4-4-says-google-7000022711/ "Galaxy Nexus, which first launched two years ago, falls outside of the 18-month update window when Google and others traditionally update devices," Google wrote.

no galaxy nexus would not get it and you can search for reasons.. even if its not 3 year's one thing is consistent they have updated it atleast 3 times each time my old nexus s was updated to 2.3 ->4.0-> 4.1 same with galaxy nexus i guess ..and since nexus 4 is so much more capable it iwll get atleast 2 more major updates and nexus 5 depends on how things pan out in future.. but it is nexus..do not buy it if you are not going to go custom anyway :P

"Update: There's still no official word on why this is the case, but sources close to the company have pointed the finger at a different hardware issue on the Galaxy Nexus: its Texas Instruments-built chipset. The company is out of the mobile business and as such isn't in a great position to give the support necessary for continuing OS upgrades -- presumably some of those 1,700 employees let go in the shift away from mobile could have helped. Now we'll have to see if the community can pick up where the corporations left off or if this is the end of the road for the Gnex and its other OMAP-based kin like last year's Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD and Droid Bionic."
Another reason too ^ http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/31/google-galaxy-nexus-kitkat/

you get visual changes which are big enough like full screen app's also you get updates form play store which work best on 4.4. like hangouts replacing sms .. point is it is still out dated and under supported software and it is not going to work well with newer apps which are based on new API's .. even game's won;t work as well as 4.2 does not support OpenGL 3 ..

already using new hangout apk..Looks awesome ! Hangout just confirmed with my mobile number with verification code :--D
i will wait for official update :D i already use it all the time :giggle: with sms support it might beat whatsapp in future :P

There would be some significance of version names, wouldn't it? For ex. both 4.2 and 4.4 are 4.x, kind of small incremental changes, meaning that apps for one should run on other in most cases.

Agree abt 4.0 to 4.1, there is marked difference between the two. I kind of get the feeling of saturation in main features after that. Will try out 4.4 if and when some friend or relative buys nexus 5.

Will take time to read most of them. But whatever I've seen till now, tbh it doesn't motivate me to spend 15K (85%) more than a phone having similar specs. Of course, its just opinions which differ from person to person.

Thing is Indian brands doesn't give OTA or any kinda of updates after phone is released and the users is stuck with stock version till the end and there will be no support in online forum for customizations. It doesn't have resale value too if consumers wants to sell it back.
