Can we all do us ourselves a collective favor and stop talking about this pleass? It does not really matter if he hits his 100th 100 or not. What matter is a 38 year old batsmen in his 22nd career year has been playing some of his best cricket. Anyone who watched his batting yesterday and came out disappointed that he was dismissed before he completed his 100 has literally no sense of perspective. The fact of the matter is, it is pretty obvious that the 'milestone' does not mean much to the man himself. India has played 15 ODIs since the time Sachin last scored a 100. Igf he was so desperate, he could have quite easily played in any one of those series and eased to a 100. But he has chosen not to do so. That is the clearest sign yet that milestones dont matter to Sachin anymore.

He is one of those rarest of individuals who show the rest of humanity that a human can become a Buddha. I mean seriously as a batsman what is left for him to achieve? The series wins and all are team efforts but as a batsman it has already been a while since he's had nothing else to achieve. Therefore whatever he has done since the last couple of seasons are just furthering his legacy and basically setting a new standard for a new Buddha whenever he or she arrives.

confession time. I watched the first hour of day 2 and then went to bed, expecting to see last session with possibly Dravid/Sehwag and SRT at the crease. As soon as I woke up I checked cricinfo - and the headline read - "Dravid and Sachin lead Indian reply". I was happy. And then I turned on the TV, and the very first ball I saw was SRT's stumps flying all over :((

hope he doesn't break it to be honest, 99 is a remarkable enough, 1 more century wont glorify it more, though certain types of media and die hard indian fans will make it seem more invincible than 99 like bradman never achieved that 100 test average, history has a way of repeating tiself in different ways...

Today's course of play was the real cause of my frustration at Sachin getting out on 73...of course no denying I wanted him to score a hundred but the main reason why I was so frustrated and started a thread was because of what I feared and that came true. My fear was that Sachin's wicket so late in the day would just lift the Aussies so much that they would demolish India on day 3. And that is exactly what happened. Ask any Aussie player, or for that matter even an Aussie fan - we have some Aussie fans posting in ICF - what is it that lifts the Aussie morale up like crazy on the field and in the fan-dom alike? Just two things - 1. To see the back of Sachin Tendulkar (especially when he is in devastating form) and 2. To see the back of Lax (especially when he is in devastating form). Some may swap the order but given the state of the match I think the order would have been as I mentioned. Why do I say this? Because Lax is suspect against swing bowling....because Sachin got out at the end of the day meant Lax would have had to face the new ball right up (even given the nightwatchman) early in the morning and Lax dunn give me the confidence to negotiate a hostile new ball spell as much as Rahul or Sachin do. The wicket of Sachin was the turning point in the game for the Aussie. I think it lifted their spirits so high that you could see it from the very first ball of the day. We had a golden opportunity to shut the door on the Aussie today but except Ashwin the rest of the 7 batsmen who batted today betrayed Sachin's efforts once again. Everyone will now say that Sachin cannot win games for India and all that bullsh!t (despite evidence to the contrary). Or they will say Sachin had no business getting out at 73. Why do we never hear such statements against Rahul - did he have any business getting out after making 68 that too consuming close to 200 balls for it? Did Viru have any business getting out at 67? O yeah, with Vuru the argument is supposed to be - wyswyg and with Rahul the argument is a non-fact based argument which sez he wins more matches for India - ghanta he does. Anyway all's not lost...we still have a chance in the game. If that gritty midget who opens the batting for us finds some form we may still be able to chase down a score of < 300. And trust me whether or not Lax scores 70+ in the second innings it will depend on how well Rahul and Sachin bat. Between them they need to make at least 100 runs to enable Lax's heroics. Really disappointed with Laxman.. at least SRT and Dravid got out to excellent deliveries.. Laxman was expected to do better, esp knowing Kohli and Dhoni are going to follow him... so much for being best clutch player.. this was as clutch situation as it gets.
