Don't be surprised if test matches again become rare like it was gradually happening before the popularity regained when we became no.1. The popularity and financial viability of test cricket will decrease if we keep on performing crap like this. India and Eng are the two more financially important nations in world cricket. If by any chance both India and England becomes crap in tests in the near future don't be surprised if test cricket nearly dies down. Everything ultimately boils down to profitably and if teams don't play well support and thereby popularity and profit decreases. It holds true especially for India which is the world cricket's largest and most important market. There are still traditional cricket fans in England and so, it might take sometime there for popularity to massively decrease if their team becomes crap. But if both teams become crap, test cricket will die. Test cricket is again heading for a crisis unless India starts performing well again.

Bollocks. Test cricket will survive regardless of our performance in it. With good bowling stocks coming up, I have high hopes for test cricket in the coming decade.

^^^ I will survive but test matches will become sparse if India and England starts performing badly by any chance. And if India continues the recent decline then at least it will face massive problems in India. In fact, cricket as a whole might be somewhat shaken in the long term if the viewer fatigue due to round-the-year cricket combined with poor performance continues for long. If some corporates promote other sports, some of them might also take viewer share in Indian sports too which would result in decrease in popularity of cricket. It is plain business which works in cricket too like in any other business. And in cricket, performance is always the deciding factor. Some part of cricket be it IPL, CL T20, Test Cricket, T20 or ODIs will definitely decrease in popularity in the long run. And if more newer and ATTRACTIVE sports like F1 did comes to India and India does well this would further reduce the popularity. If the team performance turns crap and overdose of cricket is provided with possible alternatives in other sports then it will definitely decrease in the long term. And test cricket is the most time consuming format and so, if we turn crap and continue the decline in the format, then pure business says that it will need to reduce. There would be lesser viewers and hence, lesser ad revenues and advertiser interest which would necessitate the reduction of test matches. Pure business and nothing else which works here.

^ Dont worry cricket Popularity wont decrease dramatically for atleast 50 more years.. F1 , Football cant simply take away the Cricket...there 1000 times more pople play in streets cricket compare to any other Sports.. After T20 introduction cricket popularity increased even further.... imo in 50 years time there will not be Any Internatrional cricket evrything will be Franchise based

F1 competing with cricket :hysterical: I dont mind this scheduling tbh. This means we are playing 3 T20s in srilanka right before the start world T20 in september. Will give us a good opportunity to identify on a settled line up before the tournament. The biggest reason for failure in last 2 world T20s were that we were trying to identify the best line up during the tournament since we havent played enough int T20s before that.

Yes, winning the World T20 is more important than winning a test series in a country where we haven't won for 19 years.

I hope and pray for farmers in Sri Lanka' date=' that it rains so much that they have a good time and all cricket followers don't get to see any game.[/quote'] why Farmers need rain in Offseason

Yes' date=' winning the World T20 is more important than winning a test series in a country where we haven't won for 19 years.[/quote'] Well thats true for me atleast and probably for most of fans in India. I would definitely win world cup(50 over or T20) than a test series. And its not like we are cancelling a FTP series. We had a chance 2 years ago we couldnt manage it.So we only deserve to get another chance only after 4 years just like any other team.

Expect a series with Pakistan very soon. All things point to that direction now. Wether it ewill be a test or ODI only series, only time will tell. If the tests with Pak do not happen, we may be playing England in Nov as our next test series.

50 over WC yes, T20 Cup no. My preference is... 1. WC (50 over) 2. Test series away 3. Test series at home 4. T20 cup 5. odi & t20 series.

Well i remember lakhs of indian fans flocking Mumbai when our team returned after winning T20 world cup in 2007.But i dont exactly remember our test team getting similar adulation when they returned a month ago after winning the test series in England. I too love to us win tests but winning world cups far more important.
