ChanaLal Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 We seem to be very patient in India with our fast bowling and put up with coaches who appear to make no difference at all. A world class coach should be able to make a difference to a bowler. I am sure there are examples in Ranji this season of bowlers performing unexpectedly thanks to coaches inputs, and certain un-fancied national teams bowling better than expected over the past 12-18 months. My question is, how much more time do we give Simmons as bowling coach when he just seems to be like the rest of the coaches who make no difference? Any ideas on who would do a great job developing our fast bowling? Perhaps a coach lesser known but with technical credentials???

No etc etc ,there are many such questions ,answers to which are A BIG NO. So I agree with you that he has done jack throughout his tenure.I bet Zak does more coaching of our younger bowlers than Mr. Simmons.

Very True But he obviously has dhoni approval as kirsten brought him,I will be shocked if after another 4-0 fletcher does not sack him.

Anyone in Ranji who can cut it and has international experience? It should be someone who can develop talent as well as work in the understanding of handling a changing room. The sad thing is Simmons 'reward' appears to be a head coach role in IPL

And his "development" of Ishant is exactly what he should be fired for. Hell, I could have "developed" Ishant better over the last 4 years as I have only seen him regress since he burst on the scene in 2007-08.

Akram is the guy who coaches Ishant for KKR and sat Pattinson on the bench all this time :giggle:

From when did Pattinson became a great T20 bowler? Pattinson is on the bench because Lee is the better T20 bowler.Dont tell me u cant figure this out.

maniac Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I think We were too Harsh on Venky....Our bowlers did reasonably well under him but anyway instead of looking at people like Akram,etc Iam thinking what about T.A.Shekhar-the guy who trained at MRF academy,vast experience and whenever bowlers come out of MRF academy they are promising...only when spending time under our international coaches do they morph into tundlers
maniac Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 some of the seam bowlers have trained at the MRF academy-Srinath,Prasad, and here is the pattern---Sreeshanth,RP,Munaf,Irfan all came out of the MRF pace acaddemy-became sensations on the International scene and once they were in the hands of the international coaches flopped big time.... Time to stop obsession with Phoren coaches....Yes John Wright and Kirsten were 2 of our best coaches ever but I am sure there are plenty of awesome coaches in India as well

Tendulkar_Bhai Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Fletcher has to go, i generally accept that there is only so much a head coach/manager can do e.g. Warne believing you dont even need one, but he isnt even instilling a positive attitude within the team and you see pictures on him working on Ghambir's one on one but still it makes no difference. Kirsten was never tested on an Aus/Eng tour so cant be judged either way, but John Wright preceded our golden era and changed our mindset so deserves the title of best ever coach. I think foreign bowling coaches are the way forward (how many great bowling coaches do we have), but Fletcher should be replaced with someone like Shastri or Ganguly!

But if he takes over as coach in the present state of Indo-Pak Relations, he will not be able to concentrate on his job. In Pakistan there will be lot of people calling him a traitor and in India people will talk about him sabotaging things every time a bowler has a bad spell.

Even with combined popluation of about 1.5 billion we cant beat little 25 million nation countries cause we gotta worry about offending people etc. Australia/SA/England have no problems hiring the best for the job. We have to worry about all these petty issues. Tragic. :((

Do you really think Akram is a good COACH? He was a wonderful player but can he develop talent or just share secrets? There is a big difference! There are far better development coaches out there who work with players day in day out and help create talent. Just having a former 'great player' is not the way forward when they know nothing about the technical side of fast bowling. As for MRF, has it really 'produced' any fast bowlers or just claimed them? If MRF and our own Indian coaches are so talented, then why don't we have a dozen amazing 150-160 kph fast bowlers? Why aren't we bowling teams out with our quicks? Too many people fall into the trap of thinking a great player is a great coach. TA Saker tells bowlers to slow down and bowl a line and length for heaven's sake. This attitude is exactly why we are in the mess we are in, in the first place!
