Cricketics Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Recently I was in NY for the US Open and was regularly taking subway early morning around 9ish to reach the tennis centre. Every day these two guys would get into the subway at Queensboro station and would rite away start saying "Excuse me all. We two are tryana make some money..We got some money but not much. We are not like others who steal, kill, threaten. We are lazy but also at same time don't want to work. Please YAall help us two out. Me and mah man would really appreciate." Everyday they used to deliver this speach. I saw it for 2 weeks and noticed they used to win everyone. Atleast 90% of the people in the train would give them something. There would be people playing guitar and asking for money, some singing, but these guys were special. They used to get off at Mets-Willets point station, which most of the NYkers would be aware off.
Cricketics Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 LOL at the pic, honest begger :winky: @ Tics...I've heard scene in NY subways is not very safe in the night, I know a person who visited there & got mugged by some black dudes, is this common?..just curious Well Bronx area is perhaps not safe and hence it's stations. Jamaica side sucks too. My hotel was in long island city(not the long island), and queens boro plaza was the station for me. I was once stopped in night around 11ish and asked for some money. I didn't have much cash but had some food with me and 2-3 bucks in pocket. I gave him that money and asked him if you need the food. He was like "na man. Thanks I will take bus rite away. Thanks for the money" I think you are better of giving instead of lying them or ignoring them. It's not that safe to be in NY. I think Manhattan area perhaps you can feel safe since there you can find NYPD office and stuff. I don't really live there or use it's subway that much. I usually go in car. Just during every september, I have to use it's subway.
nikred Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 That sign looks incomplete. Should have drawn the hookers too. :)
EnterTheVoid Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Two things: 1. I was surprised at the number of homeless people roaming around considering the relative affluence of the city. 2. He very well might use the money I gave him for booze and hookers but what the hell, I was completely caught off guard by his honesty.
EnterTheVoid Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Wow. It turns out one of these bums actually made it to the news for making no less than 400 dollars a day by begging alone. No wonder, he picked out a nice cosy spot in front of a big shopping mall.
