I hope this doesn't mean Sachin being picked for the ODIs. Let the Rahanes and Tiwary's get their chances now.
Sachin was always going to picked for the series. We have never won an overseas ODI series without him against top teams

the team should be gambo rahane kohli rohit raina msd jaddu umesh aaron pk
Get Sehwag and Irfan in there. Sehwag in a odi will do fine and we need a fast bowling all-rounder in Aus in the shape of Irfan.

India's tri-series squad: Selectors watch injury-hit cricketers in action BANGALORE: This was a move whose time had long come. When the Indian selectors sit down on Sunday evening in Chennai, presumably after a sumptuous Pongal meal at chairman Krish Srikkanth's house, they would probably appreciate the extra data at their disposal. For, on Thursday and Friday, the Chinnaswamy Stadium, even as it was being decked up for some tamasha cricket amongst the stars of the Indian film industry, played host to a rare event. A bunch of India ODI specialists, a few discards, recovering veterans and some promising fringe players, played a couple of warm-up matches under the watchful eyes of national selectors Mohinder Amarnath and Raja Venkat. The matches, organized by the National Cricket Academy, under express instructions from the BCCI, was not to test the skills of Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel or Irfan Pathan - they were here for the practice, in itself a good idea, as they were all coming off the four-day Ranji Trophy format. But the bigger idea was to test the match fitness of the many players who had picked up various injuries in recent times. It had more to do with the selectors and NCA staff seeing for themselves how well the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar had recovered before venturing to pick and choose amongst them for the tri-series as well as the T20 in Australia. Yuvraj didn't play the game on Friday (apparently down with a viral attack), while Munaf missed the one on Thursday while Praveen, as is his wont, was in the thick of action on both days, allowing the selectors to judge for themselves rather than only depend on the reports provided by the NCA, which, of course, will continue to play a part in their thinking. Amarnath and Venkat, watching the action on Friday from just outside the boundary line, seemed to be enjoying the sight of Raina and Shikhar Dhawan tearing into leggie Piyush Chawla, but the pressure undoubtedly is on the five wise men. India have a huge reputation to protect and facing them in the tri-series will be hosts Australia, whom they beat in the World Cup quarterfinal, and Sri Lanka, the team they defeated in the final, two teams who will be seeking revenge. With neither veteran Harbhajan Singh nor rookie Varun Aaron, both present at the NCA and undergoing rehabilitation, not figuring in either of the matches, the selectors can rule them out straightaway. With the other players, however, things will not be that easy for by setting up these warm-up games, the BCCI has passed on the extra responsibility of deciding if a player is fit or not on to the selectors. Neither Amarnath or Venkat were talking but with all the money coming their way these days, they are not in a position to complain. Already there are rumours that the straight-talking Amarnath told Yuvraj that he still had to do a lot to regain full fitness, prompting, some say, the left-hander to pack his bags and leave without playing on Friday. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-australia/top-stories/Indias-tri-series-squad-Selectors-watch-injury-hit-cricketers-in-action/articleshow/11480968.cms I think India's 5 pace bowlers for this tri series should be Zaheer, Praveen, Yadav, Munaf and Irfan

Vurld champyons :aha: What are the guesses for the squad for this? I am hoping against hope that the blundering fool Pappu doesn't get another ticket. Irfan will surely get in. Probably Rahul Sharma too. Is there truth to the Yuvraj speculation?

tendulkar should not be selected. we dont want to get into a embarassing situation where india needs about 50 off 5 overs and tendulkar is batting in the 90s with india sacrificing going for the win just to allow tendulkar get his meaningless 100

Irfan, Praveen likely to return for ODIs http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-australia/top-stories/Irfan-Praveen-likely-to-return-for-ODIs/articleshow/11488359.cms

CHENNAI: Pacers Praveen Kumar and Irfan Pathan are expected to return to the Indian squad for next month's tri-series in Australia when the national selectors meet on Sunday to pick the team. It will also be interesting to see whether the selectors name senior batsman Sachin Tendulkar and pace spearhead Zaheer Khan in the 16-member squad for the tri-series, which will have Sri Lanka as the third team, and the two T20s against Australia. Both Tendulkar and Zaheer have not played any ODIs since the World Cup final in April last year but with back-to-back whitewash on cards, the selectors may want their most experienced batsman and bowler to play the shorter format. Yuvraj Singh who is recovering from his non-malignant lung tumour and Harbhajan Singh who sustained a shinbone injury are yet to get fully fit and would not be considered for selection. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Manoj Tiwary appear to be automatic choices among the batsmen. If Tendulkar decides to play ODIs, then Ajinkya Rahane will be dropped as it would not make sense to have four specialist openers. Although Parthiv Patel is favourite to get the second wicketkeeper's slot, the selectors may just discuss Madhya Pradesh's Naman Ojha's name. Though his wicketkeeping has not been great, Ojha however has scored 668 runs in Ranji Trophy this season with three centuries and two 50's to his credit.
