Dutt ust won his first game and qualified for the quarters! Anybody else watch? Am trying to figure out why the referre virtually handed the other guy a free point in the first round. He even held up a red ball just before he did that. Had no clue wth happened. Even Yogeshwar Duty was confused. Oops... I forgot abt our flag bearer there Raghav.

Our athlete Rana Basant Bahadur finished 36th out of 64 participants in the 50 KM walk. He also set a new national record in the process. Although 36th sounds bad, setting a new NR is a wonderful achievement. I didn't even know we had athletes competing in these long distance events!

That was not free point' date='The round ended in draw and then they just draw balls, unfortunately Indians are always out of luck when they draw balls[/quote'] Ahh... thanks for explaining that. So if the Russian makes it to the final then Yogeshwar goes into the Repechage round right?

Three times unlucky :headshake: Read in paper that Sushil Kumar was a rare guy who won the knockout even though he had picked up the wrong ball. This happened last Olympics.

Can someone explain what is the grab ball rule; i understand it is to shorten the game but how exactly does the rule work One wrestler gets red and other blue??? and what do these mean then??

The ball maps to the colour of the jersey. http://blogs.theprovince.com/2012/08/09/london-2012-with-the-ball-draw-is-it-olympic-wrestling-or-olympic-roulette/
ThatÃÔ a good thing. But this ball draw procedure that wrestling uses to speed up matches and settle scoreless ties after each round it sucks. This is supposed to be a sport at an Olympics. ItÃÔ not supposed to be the roulette wheel at the River Rock. You may have seen it. If not, hereÃÔ what happens. Two wrestlers, one wearing a red singlet, the other in blue, tie 0-0 in round one. The wrestler in red picks a specially wrapped ball out of a bag. If it comes up red she (or he) gets to take the offensive position in a 30-second tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, a clinch, the offensive position means the red wrestler gets to hold the blue wrestlerÃÔ leg while they stand on one foot. The blue wrestler then must remain upright for 30 seconds or they lose. The wrestler in the offensive position wins about 70 per cent of the time. So now letÃÔ assume round two also produces a 0-0 tie. They go to the draw bag again only this time thereÃÔ two blue balls in the bag and one red. ThatÃÔ supposed to make it fairer for the person who lost the first ball draw. The winner of a match is the first one to win two rounds. Rounds are just two minutes long. One wrestler could win the first round 8-0 on points and lose the next two rounds and the match by a pair of 1-0 scores after proving inept in the most challenging of skills randomly drawing balls. I just donÃÕ get it. This is a new rule. It was brought in after the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. This foolishness has apparently descended upon us because itÃÔ likely to produce more scoring opportunities and reduce the time it takes for matches. That might make wrestling more fun for casual fans, ones with the attention span of your average house fly and, dare we say, television networks. But what about the athlete? An athlete spends years training to get to an Olympics and then they lose their match, in large part, because of a stretch of bad luck at the ball bag. ThatÃÔ just not right.
