Ultimate_Game Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Once Tendulkar, Laxman and Dravid were a shoe-in for all time greats and were in the debate for being one of the best there ever was, especially Dravid and Tendulkar. But the last 2 series against England and Australia will have a significant impact on their legacy and their standing in world cricket will forever be tarnished. Can anyone seriously consider Dravid better than Ponting, or Tendulkar better than Kallis or Richards anymore? Laxman can't even be considered a great anymore, just one of the good batsmen in the same category as ganguly. The collective failures of these players wil have an ever-lasting impact on their legacy and their inability to walk out at the right time, say like Gilchrist, will forever come back to haunt them.

Karan114 Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Its not so much that (Tendulkar and Dravid are the two highest run scorers of all time!), as the fact that India have again become tagged as home bullies, minnows abroad. Its that tag that these guys (including Kumble and Ganguly) worked so hard to remove but at the end of their careers, 8-0 has ensured that we are back to square one.

There were times when cook and trott weren't getting out. Yes, it was worse than our recent performance in Sydney. No one questioned ponting's greatness that time. Just not overreact. Yes, they are not at their best, but still no one can take away what they have done in the past. They will remain legend forever.

It's worse than 90s as at least we used to put more fight than what we've done over the last year.

Having a bad series is one thing, and even in that series Aus managed a win and at least fought all the way. Our stars have simply folded and don't even look like they want to be there. Derision of the Ch 9 commies is painful to hear and basically shows what others think about these players.

[/quote'] Only Sachin is a true legend.. But one man cannot rescue a Pathetic spineless team all the time. Dravid WAS a good workhorse. Laxman a good but inconsistent batsman. The rest have always been FTB's.

I would say retiring on the peak, just for legacy's sake when the team still needed you, would have been the most selfish thing ever. I am glad they thought of team over legacy.

No one doubts Tendulkar or Dravid's greatness. We'll have to disagree on that point.

Let's see what call these players make after the series is over. If they continue to play tests at home after the last 2 away series debacles, would you term them selfish then?

E.g., not many will consider Tendulkar ahead of Lara, Kallis or Richards right now when he was way ahead before the Eng series. He will be a great but in the same category as other greats, not the 2nd in line after Bradman.

But after this series the opinion will be divided and outside of India people will knock them down. If it were a stock exchange the stocks of SRT, Dravid and Laxman would be taking a major beating over the last year or so.

I don't think Any of their "triumphs" in Test Cricket can compensate for this 6-0 losing streak. Which series triumph are we referring to ? The one in Eng , WI or Pak where we won 1-0 ?
