England won't deserve the #1 ranking when they lose it. Pretty much why India didn't deserve it by mid 2011 :P The No.1 spot is fiercely being competed for by 4-5 teams. Unless one of them topples England, the Poms will remain worthy of the title of world's best Test team.

Even if Pakistan wins this series, they aren't better unless they can beat other big teams.

And it's an established fact that the better team wins. So yeah ,technically speaking, if we defeat England then we will be the better team. But not No.1.

To be better you have to be consistent. Pakistan could win this series and then lose a few. England could lose this series and win or remain undefeated for the rest of the year.
