to be honest all the current teams are no where near some of the all time great teams of the past. there has been a drastic drop of quality in all teams across the world, but england still probably are the best of a bad bunch.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusion yet. We all know how volatile Pakistan can be, one day they play like champs and the next day they are terrible and lose to lowly teams. However it's common knowledge that England can't play spin, this is why they will never be able to beat India in India. If anything, I think Australia will be back at no.1 again because while they still don't have a quality spinner, their batsmen aren't as poor as England's or South Africa's when it comes to playing spin. Indian batsmen are FTB's so I don't see any team other than Aus being able to hold on to the no.1 spot for a long period.

Actually the no 1 team deserves the no 1 status coz... they are no 1. Who else will be no 1. Everyone sucks in alien conditions except Saffers and they bloody choke.
