...or more exactly 20 years ago tomorrow (10/25) Kapil, Prabhakar, Raju and Tendulkar skittling Australia for 145. India should have won the game here but a strong 2nd innings batting performance from Australia ended us having India to chase 372 on last day, we fell short by 39 odd runs. Possibly the last great hurrah for Kapil Dev as an all-rounder. The midget choked even back then.... :giggle:
He dismissed Border for a duck...no small success that :winky: First series down under for SRT, played great overall. If anyone choked it was that chewtiya Manjrekar. Made little runs and when settled would get run out. First full series for Srinath, Prabhakar and Kapil in tandem. Not too shabby an attack that :two_thumbs_up:

Actually that 5 test series which we ended up losing 4-0 was better than this one...India was close on winning 2 of those test and didn't lose any by innings. Not bad for a team which had not won a overseas test or even drawn a series for long time.

Well he got couple of good hundreds as an opener on two tough tours - WI tour of 89 being the other one. Australia 91and WI 89 were two of the most miserable overseas performances by Indian team since the time India had shrugged off the title of minnows in world cricket. And even on those tours we had few hundreds from Indian side. This shows how abject we have been in this series. I think this is worst ever phase of Indian cricket since the time they meant anything to world cricket.

Well he got couple of good hundreds as an opener on two tough tours - WI tour of 89 being the other one. Australia 91and WI 89 were two of the most miserable overseas performances by Indian team since the time India had shrugged off the title of minnows in world cricket. And even on those tours we had few hundreds from Indian side. This shows how abject we have been in this series. I think this is worst ever phase of Indian cricket since the time they meant anything to world cricket.

Most Indians are unaware of this match. Everybody remembers the bucknor incident but very few remember the pathetic Umpiring in this match in 1992 which cost us a great victory. This was one of our greatest run chases . Yes we lost but we fought . Prabhakar was a hero to all of us after this match. The umpiring was woeful . The Aussie bowler had to just hit the pads and he would get the lbw from the Aussie Umpires . (Darrel Hair & Peter Mcconell) This became Peter Mcconell's last test as an Umpire ,Primarily because he cost us this match . This is from his cricinfo page

Peter McConnell umpired in 22 Tests who attracted controversy in two series. In 1990-91 he was embroiled in a row when he responded to an enquiry from Phil Tufnell as to how many balls remained in an over by snapping: "Count 'em yourself you Pommie ***." The following season his final appearance, in a Test against India, was, according to Wisden, "marred by controversy over lbw decisions - eight times Indians were given out, while all but two of their own appeals were rejected".

Yup. WI in 89 was a pretty decent team of course. Australia in 91 were rebuilding but still would be as good, if not better than today's outfit. That shows how bad we have been in this series and in England:blink:

Ok, tell me which Indian appeals that were plumb were turned down, and i'll upload them. Put up or shut up. Cricinfo has written so many ridiculously wrong articles, they have even taken a few down after i have provided video proof to them that they were wrong. That Indian test was marred by pathetic Indian batting and bowling, not the umpiring. watch the video, i don't need some biased cricinfo article.
