Sooda Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 If an A team were to be selected tomorrow to face, say Lions in England, what would it look like? Perhaps it should read... Vijay Dhawan Mandeep Singh M Tiwary Pandey S Yadav Parthiv Patel Pankaj Singh Ashok Dinda Unadkat? Apanna P Awana, A Srinivas, Uday Kaul, R Bist, T Srivastava Id say no Mukund or Pujara because they should be playing test cricket really, and hopefully will be in the next squad. Bit stuck on the openers as you can see...
jairamesh Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Unlikely to happen, need to prepare for IPL as per BCCI instructions.
skindia Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 vijay scored only 1 century in ranji in 2011-12
The Dark Horse Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Vijay and dhawan aren't good these days
Sooda Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Bit stuck on the openers as you can see... I want other options...throw some names at me...Khadiwale, Kanwar, Chand, Inder Singh, Teja...
Sooda Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Thought about fitting Jaddu in there too... :hmmm:
The Dark Horse Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 My team: 1. Saxena 2. ? 3. R.Bisht 4. S.A.Yadav 5. M.Pandey 6. M.Tiwari 7. KDKarthik 8. Appanna 9. Abu Nechim 10. TP Sudhindhra 11. Dinda
skindia Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Akash chopra and wasim jaffer as openers or uthappa and mukund
skindia Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 mukund uthappa Robin bist Suryakumar Yadav cheteshwar pujara Manish Pandey Uday kaul Appanna abu nechim varun aron RP singh..
Sooda Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Akash chopra and wasim jaffer as openers or uthappa and mukund Uthappa has been even worse than Vijay right.. not too sure though. Yes Mukund aside Jaffer and Chhopra are the best domestic openers, hardly bodes well for the future. Perhaps Kartik can open as specialist batter
The Dark Horse Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 We dont have riches w.r.t openers either
1983-2011 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 just go with the best players that has been performing in the ranji trophy this year and past couple of years instead of players due to their age, past reputation etc...
Chandan Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 If Gambhir/Sehwag are still opening opining for India, then give as much exposure possible to Rahane and Mukund. Don't think Mukund has sorted out that technical flaw where he chops the balls on the stumps when bowlers bowl with relentless accuracy at the stumps. We need to find that out against quality bowlers and it can happen only in A tours. Kohli, Rohit and Pujara might take up the three spots in the MO in the test team but we need to find out a quality batsman to replace the 4th spot as well. Tiwari is unproven at the moment, Raina has been a failure and if he wants that spot he needs to left his game up by several notches. Then who else is the contender for that MO slot, who we can include in India A at the moment? And Sooda, please, no Unadkat. We tried him just one year back in the most helpful bowling conditions and he failed. Don't think he should be on the radar of selection any moment soon. Aaron seemed to be a poor new ball bowler too. We need to have a bowler who can strike with new ball, not wait for it to get old as the opposition will be 300/0 till then. Who is the best swing bowler in the country who strikes with new ball?

Who is the best swing bowler in the country who strikes with new ball? Kumar I guess yeah.. but he is a test player who in a full strength team he would play instead of Ishant. Was not sure about 3rd pacer, hence the question mark. Going by stats alone Unadkat seemed to have a decent season. Maybe Nechim Ahmed or Awana? Right now Aaron too would be in a full strength test squad, that leaves Mithun and Vinay Kumar as options for an A team... In an ideal world Mukund and GG would open in the next test series Sehwag in the MO and Rahane at 3 or 4 too, or at least in the squad of 15...with No A team cricket the only way for young players like Mukund to sort out flaws is tests. Hammering domestic trundlers will teach em nothing
saneindian Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Akshat Reddy, Dhawan, Mandeep Singh, Robin Bist, Manoj Tiwary, Raina ©, Surya Yadav, Jadeja, Uday Kaul, Rishi Dhawan, Pankaj Singh, Dinda, Aaron, Nechim, Abdullah

Magneto Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I don't think any openers have done particularly well this Ranji season. If you purely go by numbers, Vineet Saxena and KB Pawan has the most runs for openers, but both have bolstered their averages and runs purely by one spectacular performance, that is by the 257 that Saxena scored in the Ranji Trophy finals and by the 251 not out that Pawan scored against Saxena's team in the league matches. Otherwise, their batting have been strictly okay. The other people among the top 5 openers would be Chopra and Vijay, and both of them have been pretty much quiet all season barring a couple of stellar performances that has kept them in the mix. Shikhar Dhawan has not even scored a century in his ten Ranji innings this year.
