What if... What happens if the seniors don't call it a day soon and score runs at home against NZ, Eng etc. and then "retire" in 2013 just before India's away tours thereby throwing the new players (won't call the likes of Rohit, Pujara youngsters by that time) in the deep end? To me this looks like a distinct possibility. Our seniors will try to milk their test career as long as they can and try to get as many runs as possible before facing the tougher away conditions.

Make them play at home and get some confidence before the away tour instead of sending them without any experience at all. If anything of that sort happens as mentioned in the OP then another whitewash in England and Australia will not be unexpected because those youngsters can then get away by saying since Tendulkar, laxman, dravid couldn't save us then, so expecting us (youngsters) to perform is a bit too much to ask when we haven't played any games. So lets give them maximum chance to groom themselves by making them play at home. Thats what Ponka is saying all along. Get rid of these seniors, bring new blood in the team otherwise get ready to be smacked again on away tours.

you have got to be kidding. new zealand would tear india's batting lineup to pieces. their bowling attack is far better than it was when they last toured. back then, chris martin was destroying the batting lineup and india needed some hundreds from harbhajan singh to salvage a draw in one test and to win another. india's bating lineup cant score anywhere. the old guys are done. now they have bracewell and boult, two very good seamers. those two guys in addition to vettori and martin would be more than enuff to bowl india out twice.

Are you sure "hypothetical" is the right word? Coz as far as I believe, your scenario is exactly what is going to happen.

Whats going to happen is likely to be this 1. Laxman will not be picked for any more tests. Rohit Sharma will likely replace him. 2 Dravid will play till the England series and then retire. 3 Sehwag will move down the order after the England series to the No 3 spot. 4 Mukund or Rahane will come into the team. 5 Tendulkar will play on till the South African tour of 2013. 6 Dhoni may be removed from captaincy, but will continue in the team. 7 Sehwag will be made captain and will probably remain so till the time is found right to induct one of the youngsters (especially Kohli) as captain.
