Really surprised to see so many Aussie players in the squad who most probably won't make it to the next WC in 2015 - Ponting, most probably both the Hussey bros, Harris, Lee. I can understand Ponting and Mike Hussey coz of their form at the time, but don't see why they are sticking with so many older players when they have so many youngsters to choose from who can be part of the WC squad come 2015. On similar lines would have loved to see SRT not selected for the odis as he can't make it to 2015. Vinay Kumar shouldn't be there solely based on the talent level.

aussies have done a selection blunder here - just 1 regular opener (warner) selected. they should have selected shaun marsh/ed cowan also what happened to watson ??? if he was fit, then he should have been there as the 2nd opener

Wade has already opened for australia in T20's, he is a gun. Brilliant talent. And not exactly a softie either, he has that Haddin attitude, typical brash aussie like Warner. Im sure opposition teams will hate him.

Travis Birt - Yes. He is a good power hitter ideal for T20s and make the most of power-plays in odis. A very dangerous batsman in lower middle order. Robert Quiney - No. Hasn't done enough to deserve a spot. Bradd Hogg - No. The guy's near 40 and retired from cricket around 4 years back, and he's hardly in the same class as Warne. Going back to him would be taking 4 steps backwards and a thing which Indian selectors would do.

Read what the chairman of selectors has said. He said that Australia plan for the WC 2 years before - so they will start only in 2013. Till then, they pick their best team irrespective of age. I think that's the best way as well. There is no point in planning so far ahead. Pick your best team and win games. With so many matches, you can rotate players anyway.

Have seen them. Birt can't get into Aussies top order coz Clarke, Ponting, Hussey will bat there. He is the ideal player to slot in at 6 or 7 based on his power hitting no matter where he bats in the state side. Quiney can't get ahead of Clarke, Ponting, Hussey at the moment and Birt deserves a spot ahead of Quiney down the order. Hogg may be the best spinner but he's not that far ahead of the likes of Lyon. I would rather Aus sticks with Lyon as he's the future and will only get better. Hogg would have been fine if WC were just round the corner but 2015 is wayy too far for Hogg.

correct Quiney is not good Hogg temporary Birt can get a reguler chance..if he able to bowl then his chances increase even further

+1 they dont have genuine fast bowlers, lee,harris always susciptable to injury, starc,mckay will go for runs, not a great aus squad, but still good enough to beat india
