Shaun Marsh dropped from Australian one-day team, Peter Forrest called up BY: PETER LALOR From: The Australian January 30, 2012 SHAUN Marsh has been dropped from the Australian one-day team and selectors have been unable to find a place for Steve Smith. Marsh has been sent back to state cricket to regain some form while his brother Mitch will come into the side for the third game. Smith, who is one of the highest-paid cricketers in the country because he was ranked in all three forms of the game when contracts were handed out this year, has been dropped from the Test, T20 and one-day teams since the list was drawn up by the last selection panel. Australia is due to play a triangular series against India and Sri Lanka after the two T20 internationals. Brad Haddin has been rested from the squad which was part of a long term-plan after he was picked to captain the PM's XI match against Sri Lanka in Canberra on Friday. Nathan Lyon, who was to play that game, has pulled out injured. "Brad Haddin has come off a heavy program of Test cricket the workload for a wicketkeeper/batsman is rigorous and resting him for the start of the series will refresh him for coming international commitments while also giving us a chance to look at Matt Wade at this level," chairman of selectors John Inverarity said. "We have not at this stage named a vice-captain for the first three games with Brad resting and Shane Watson still unavailable while he completes his recovery from injury, and will assess that position when the squad assembles. "Peter Forrest, in great form for Queensland and also for his KFC T20 Big Bash League side this summer, comes into the group but will remain available for the PM's Xl game in Canberra this Friday, where he is vice-captain to Brad Haddin. "Shaun Marsh is obviously disappointed with his own form in recent weeks and is out of the side but remains in our thinking for the future while he works at state level as they say, class is permanent but form can be temporary. "Brett Lee had a terrific Big Bash League and with Ryan Harris provides the squad with the experience at this level that will benefit the broader fast bowling group, while Xavier Doherty's ability in this format speaks for itself. "Mitch Marsh will be released from the squad for the first two ODIs to allow him to play in the BUPA Sheffield Shield match against Queensland as part of our planning for him to continue to benefit from long-form experience." so whats their team gonna be?? warner david hussey ponting clarke mike hussey christian wade lee doherty harris starc ??? vs sehwag, tendulkar, gambhir, kohli, rohit, dhoni, raina/jadeja, ashwin, praveen/irfan, umesh, zaheer this is easily the best xi india has had since the world cup. on paper, it should be no contest. we have batting down to 9 at very the least, a very complete bowling attack. but who knows what kind of mood they will be in. i dunno what to expect from india anymore.

Forrest? Aussie selectors gone nuts again? The guy hasn't done squat in List A, just because he had a good shield season he's in the team? Anyways weak squad IMO.

Underestimate this squad at your peril. Lee is still a very good limited-overs bowler. Sixers wouldn't have won the BBL without him. Doherty may have been found out in the Ashes, but does the job more than adequately in limited-overs matches. Harris, Starc, and McKay are quality. As for their batting, we have played Ponting and Clarke back into rude form - watch them, Warner and the Husseys plunder our pie chuckers. I expect them to score over 300 quite regularly, even on the bigger Oz grounds.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mitch Marsh in the 3rd match, great player in the making! Little surprised Ferguson isn't in the squad, he has never let us down. Maybe he is injured.

You're going to be very surprised... The indian team is very good but full of guys that have proved nothing while here to date... Chrisian, Forrest, Starc, Harris, etc are quality and some have pwned your superstars already this summer... Aust is rated No. 1 ODI side by an absolute country mile.... 2nd place should be identified as daylight the gap from 1-2 is that big.... You don't get rated that highly as No.1 because your weak or ordinary... There is a lot of talk here and if India double their output from tests to ODIs they will still be short... A poor resultin the ODIs and Indian cricket is in a lot of trouble IMO

Some cockyness by few Indian fans.. Looks like another comeuppance is in order.. lol The least you could do is be bit less cocky... If "World Cup Winners" start losing then you'll have nowhere to hide..

India is not really that much better than Aus on paper. Firstly, Aus have a better bowling attack and are a much better fielding unit which is very important to maintain pressure. Then in the batting side Ponting, Clarke and Hussey are all in fine form and if Warner gets going we know how dangerous he can be. Wade will want to prove his worth to the team as well, + Christian has taken big strides as well.. So really I think these two sides are fairly even on paper, if anything I think Aus shade it to be honest but it really doesn't matter because the game isn't played on paper.
