nsareen Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 This guy has been a thorn in the Indian's Flesh. since the test series he has been taking 5 wickets as regularly as going for a grocery shopping & grabbing a 5fer against India. He has done it again, but there is a HUGE difference in the Hilfenaus of the Old and the new. The old used to bowl around 133-138kmph hardly ever touching 140kmph which is good for a swing bowler but is ideal for Hitting too. When you cross 145-146kmph regularly it becomes tougher and tougher to hit a bowler with swing. He has increased his speed by a good 5-10kmph, that is EXTRAORDINARY to me. He clocked 148.3kmph as the fastest and average 143-145kmph, is outstanding. Add to it the accuracy & swing he generates, and the surprise bouncer with which he cleans up the tail, he is becoming really lethal. I feel he is underestimated by the indians and do not have a plan to bat against him. He was the most threatening of all the bowlers, be it Test or ODI's. I'm just wondering when Aussies play a full fit squad with bowlers as Cummins, Lee, Siddle, Pattinson & Hilfenaus, how are india going to score a 50 will be the question ? I have to say he is the best bowler i've seen improve so much, even more so than Finn. Finn has improved on his pace, but PACE+ Wicket taking ability is what Ben Hilfenaus has improved on, by doing whatever training he has done with the rugby folks. Sad indian comeback bowlers like Irfan Pathan,RP Singh, Sreesanth are lesser in speed & Incisiveness on their comeback. Anybody has any views on this lad, pls post. He is a living example of a CASE STUDY for "How to make a comeback with a BANG".

Mr. Ben Hilfenaus" ?? would it be appealing then , well i din't want to glamorize the thread, just wanted to share his comeback performances.
Ultimate_Game Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Hilfenhaus has been a revelation this series and I am amazed at the pace he has been bowling at. As mentioned he added 10 kph+ to his bowling speed and looks a different bowler now. I hope we talk to this guy's bowling coach & trainers and figure out he managed to improve so much.

He worked hard on his strength in the one year he was out of the team and now has gained some pace, was bowling consistently quicker than Brett Lee who still at 35 is as quick as any in the world. He understood the importance of pace as he iterated this in an interview during the test series where he said he had swing but he lacked pace (read 140+ as he used to be in 130s before) to survive at international level and he worked on that aspect between the break after Ashes, worked on his strength in the gym, and now is bowling quicker than ever he has bowled before and in that process, he has not lost his swing and also has added a surprise fast bouncer which he lacked before.
Old guy Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 in tests some times he was bowling slower..but never the less now he has the ability to generate pace it can always come in handy good bowler but i wil say this again he is not bowling nay magic balls teams like south africa, england will handle him much better

Would get anyone out. The Haus' resurgence has been refreshing. Will create great competition for spots when Pattinson and Cummins are back and firing.

That's why if I were part of BCCI I would talk to people who worked with Hilfenhaus - bowling coach, fitness instructor, strength & conditioning coach etc. coz clearly something right was done with Hilfy and I would invite them to MRF pace academy or NCA (National Cricket Academy) to oversee a similar rehabilitation or coaching of our pace talent. Hell, I would pay Hilfy as a consultant to provide more details on his rehabilitation process.
Old guy Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 the ball with dhonuts dhoni posted was bowled at 129. it wasnt pace which destroyed us it was all round pressure by each and every bowler and good planning hope we learn form this he used pace when it was needed and also bowled with control when it swung .. really improved a lot :nice:

MRF coaches cannot even refine and correct the basic errors of the fast bowlers coming for there. They are good for noting, just hyped up.

It may or may not work for us but at least we will have the people who made it work for someone at least. So far we have lost talents like Irfan, Balaji, RP Singh, VRV Singh, Munaf Patel etc., and we may yet lose Sreesanth and Ishant. Apparently there's something wrong in the way we handle and manage our fast bowlers, which IMO are the most precious asset in cricket. We can't afford to lose such precious talent and I would get people who know what they are doing in our academies ASAP. No point in proceeding with status-quo as NCA and MRF pace academy have done precious little for us.
nsareen Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 Just for the info, during the Test Series the Commies were mentioning that he had worked extremely hard with the Australian "Rugby Team" to build his strength & Stamina.

CG Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 its a myth he was 130km/h and now he is 145km/h ,He always had the pace in england he clocked 150km/h and was 140+ ,same in india he clocked 147km/h .

They have been saying it all along he has gained in pace because of his strength & stamina build up during the offseason after being out of the Australian Team, and are going gaga over how he has comeback. And to be true i've been a keen follower of Australian Fast Bowlers and i can safely say he never was an 145kmph bowler on any sort of surface, let alone 150kmph.
nsareen Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 He was treated as a Mosquito & carted all around the park, his last 2 international ODI's before making a comeback yesteraday were against india and went for 73 & 84 runs of his 10 overs. Now he is treating our batsman as Old Fishermen trying to "fish" outside the offstump to his Outswing, and shaking their hands in the process.

WQR-vPkM1zQ&feature=relmfu Look for videos on the same channel its from ashes 2009. You will find he was 140+ most times and even touched 150km/h. Lat series in india he touched 145km/h and in odis he was 140km/h. Yes he has improved his stamina but pace was always there.

He may have hit quick deliveries but that was not consistent. You will never found him bowling quicker than Brett Lee for 10 overs, but he did it in last ODI. He would usually drop down and was never able to sustain the intensity and lacked fitness.
