amiret Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 His 100 in SA, in bowler friendly conditions was a fantastic innings. But since then he has been disappointing.
skindia Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 he didnt get proper chances like raina, rohit sharma, parthiv patel and jadeja getting despite failure...
Ultimate_Game Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Uthappa and Yusuf are anyday better than Jaddu & Pappu. At least Yusuf won us a few games with his big-hitting (against NZ, SA, SL) and he was the only one to score runs and actually hammer SA bowlers in SA. Uthappa was always handy with the bat and did reasonably well in Eng in 2007 and in CB Series 2008 in Aus. Plus he has worked on his batting since and at least deserves a look-in for the no. 7 spot or as a backup wk in shorter formats. That way we will be spared the trouble f watching pappu coming in at 6 or 7 trying to get the ball off the square.
The Realist Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Yeah I would always play Uthappa and the Pathan brothers. Need some muscle and strength lower down the order which you don't get with weaklings like Jadeja and Patel - they are not even basic level athletes never mind decent cricketers.
Stuge Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 His 100 in SA, in bowler friendly conditions was a fantastic innings. But since then he has been disappointing. That's where the problem lies .He failed to play well in world cup and the reason he was kicked out . He seriously need to show some restrain while hitting.
asterix Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Good to have competition over Jaddu's place...
Ultimate_Game Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 That's where the problem lies .He failed to play well in world cup and the reason he was kicked out . He seriously need to show some restrain while hitting. True but he failed while he was going for his shots at the end. If you look at the WC, our top order batsmen scored runs consistently - Sehwag, Tendulkar, Gambhir, Kohli and Yuvraj. i.e., our top 5 were amongst the runs. That left Yusuf to simply come in and flay from the get go and you can very well fail in this scenario. If you look at all the big scores or match winning knocks played by Yusuf (against NZ or in SA), he came to the wkt with lots of overs to go and he could play himself in. Even against SA he was quite circumspect initially before exploding when he had his eye in. In WC he never really had that opportunity as he always came to the crease in the last 10 overs. Maybe he should be given a chance to bat at 5 so that he can come in with overs to go and he could play himself in.
Number Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 They gave him a chance in WI after WC. Result - Fail. We can bring the match-winner argument but he is too inconsistent. Time to move on.
skindia Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Raina is total failure after world cup and before world cup in SA series but still he is getting chances coz of csk connection.
skindia Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 even gambhir hasnt done anything in world cup except knock in final and after that he played well in current series....different players has different criterias
Ultimate_Game Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 They gave him a chance in WI after WC. Result - Fail. We can bring the match-winner argument but he is too inconsistent. Time to move on. But you will never have too many consistent batsmen at no. 7 :dontknow: Name one batsman who was consistency personified at 7? No. 7 batsman will either bat when quick runs are needed or comes in after a collapse. What Yusuf did batting at that spot was good enough IMO. A quick 30 or so is more than enough most of the times at 7 and Yusuf fit the bill perfectly. Even Uthappa can be tried for that batting spot.

But he can't bat according to the situation. Hit and miss kind of player. Yes , I agree on Uthappa , they can try him at that pos. Or else we need to develop Raina as a no. 7 and decent part-time bowling option. As I can see that he doesn't have temperament to play a long innings at no. 5.
bajrang Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 problem with raina & jaddu abroad is that they fail to clear those big boundaries and get caught in deep.they are only good in india where boundries are short. OTOH both pathan brothers are quite capable of clearing big boundaries.
VRV Singh Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Shouldn't be revisionism over Yusuf. Limited batsman only suited to certain role, and rarely did what was required. Crap bowler. Better options in the team now.
saneindian Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Needs to work on his bowling. With his inconsistent bowling and average fielding unless he chips in regularly with 6-7 overs every match, hard to see him having a regular place in the side.
