vvvslaxman Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Number of times the following batsmen have a match aggregate of 200 when their team wins. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;orderby=player;page=4;qualmin1=200;qualval1=runs;result=1;template=results;type=batting;view=match Bradman 12 RT Ponting 10 Whingakkara 7 Greenidge 6 Kallis 6 Langer 6 Dravid 5 Inzamam 5 Hammond 5 Atapattu 4 G CHappell 4 Miandad 4 Younis 4 Sehwag 3 Boycott 3 Hayden 3 Hutton 3 Moyo 3 Pietersen 3 G Smith 3 Sobers 3 SR Waugh 3
Khalpat Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I didnt get it why 200, is it a kind of benchmark, the better way is how many time team have won when players have made century R Ponting 29 Don Bradman 25 M Hayden 25 Sachin 20 Inzi 18 A gilchrist 15 R Dravid 15 I Bell 11 B Lara 8 W Hammond 7 VVS Laxman 7 S Gavaskar 6

Tendulkar made 193.. but Dravid's 148 was much more significant. But in 200 aggregate scenario.. it is very rare two batsmen have aggregate of 200 in the same match.

Yah but again why 200 because its 5 times India has won when Sachin has scored more than 180 in a match then how is greater than 200 more significant then 180. And also its only Win Matches what about Drawn test. Many great batsman such as Lara, Sachin, Gavaskar do not come into picture and their significance we will never understand in saving a match.

Just because they didn't make this list they don't become any lesser players. If it makes you happy Sachin is also in this list. You are free to post the stat with a cut off 179 also as India won a match with Sachin scoring 179. ..If we go further down.. you can use 165 as cut off.. India won couple of matches with sachin scoring.. we can go down to 155 few more wins. twice 214* & 54 in the most recent test against Australia 248* vs Bangladesh.

Exactly that is why I asked the significance of this statistics. Please do not get me wrong, but I am still not able to understand what you are trying to say or is it just a random statistics and you found it interesting and wanted to share it with everyone. And yes I forgot using Sachin word is taboo here I just used him as an example, I am going to edit my post with Sunny or Lara or Azhar or else a whole brigade is going to come and paint me as deshdrohi bhakth murtipujak burhau upasak illogical moron.
vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 This is the failure of statistics. Statistics dont show the greatness of certain knocks or players. THey can quantify numbers but can they qualify them? How valuable was Laxman's 96 in Durban compared to Jayawardene's many 200+ knocks in flat roads in SL? Stats wont tell you. Stats only confirm the greatness once quality is already evaluated. I dont see Mahela in that list. Anyway if we start using such filters.. there are many will go missing. For instance i am using the same headingley test as an example. First dday pitch was very difficult to bat on. Second day pitch somewhat eased out. That ill be a massive exercise. Road or not if the match had resulted in a win, it would still have been considered as a signifnicant contribution.
vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 Man of the match award can be combined with this.. not sure how i can do it Among batsmen who won MOM S Waugh 14 MOM out of 86 wins Punter 11/106 Hayden 8/71 Langer 8/70 Sangu 8/43 G Chappell 7/38 Dravid 7/56 Inzamam 7/49 Gilly 6/73 Gooch 6/32 Thorpe 6/38 Azhar 5/22 Pietersen 5/34 Sehwag 5/37 Hussey 5/43 Slater 5/44 laxman 5/47 Greenidge 5/57 Tendulkar 5/63

Don't worry you'll always be able to find few such lists. When talk is about 1st innings average then he'll be compared with sehwag, when about fourth innings average then he'll be compared with VVS. Few years back it was fashinable to compare his fourth innings averages with other greats particularly with Lara, Dravid or Waugh. Now as Sachin closed that gap or surpassed many of these greats, that stat has gone out of fashion. How many matrix we are going to invent just to put Sachin down, RPT, no of match total of 200 in wins (while declaring that 100s are meaningless)? I am pretty sure you not gonna run out of ideas ever.

It is mainly a Tribute to Dravid than to disrespect to Tendulkar.

There can be hundreds of stats to show the greatness of Dravid, there can be hundreds of criteria in which this great man will be at top position, why do you need to open a thread of a rediculous statistics in which Dravid to whom you want to pay ribute is at 7th position.

This was kind of disguised tribute where people could not figure out that it was a tribute until tributer declared himself. @akhsayxyz - Not only he shares that space with Inzi, he is behind his contemporaries like Whinga and Langer.

I don't care whether it was tribute or to bring down anyone specific. But 'khalpat' pwned him on this one - that it was a tribute to Dravid. Least vvs should have done was, filtered the list to include only Indians. :hysterical:.
