Sachin=GOD Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I don't think anyone is questioning his integrity and character or even his carer. Folks are simply stating the innings against B'desh was a little selfish, which it was. As for "dedicating his whole life to the team" part you must be kidding! Tendulkar, like any other professional sportsperson, is not doing any charity. He became a billionaire coz of the sport he plays and coz of the same fans who are stating he was selfish in that innings. You are making it sound as if Tendulkar is some sort of a saint like Mother Teresa who dedicated his entire life to the poor or something for nothing in return. Before Sachin became a leading cricketer he used to belong to a middle class family and used to travel via local train to matches/practice, just like Sehwag or most of the other cricketers used to do. He became rich and famous due to cricket and pls don't term it as "life dedicated to the team". It's as if I, or anyone else out here says that "I dedicated my life for my organization". We are doing a job to earn a paycheck and it's no different for Tendulkar. The only difference is that his profession is cricket and ours is more mundane. If it hadn't been about money he wouldn't be playing IPL and then sitting out of the WI series. So whats this - "I might not have scored a single "international" run, while Tendulkar has scored 100 "international" hundreds but I can proudly say that I have never deliberately and willfully jeopardized the chances of any team I have been on, in any field to pursue my individual goals. It's more than Tendulkar will ever achieve in his life - integrity and dedication to the teams' cause. " -
Ponka Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Oh' date=' so [b']you see nothing wrong in destroying the integrity and character of someone who has dedicated his whole life to the team, just because we have a non-existent bowling attack? Its a shame many people who I thought had some sense, can't see they're scathing attacks on one person (for hardly a reason) have brought the wrath on others. I can sympathise with Bossbhai, where he has to stoop down to the level of others, to make you see how pathetic your comments are. And yet you still are blind to it (all the while calling others blind as bat bhakts) Some tough points, digest if you can. How many careers he didnt allow to come into team cuz he was always preferred by selectors to be given a permanent run in the team when he was non-performing? Why a different selection criterion for him??? He gave his life to the team for himself. He got respect, money and fame in return. If he hadn't showed up, somebody else would have. It was his decision to play cricket, not the billions of Indians went to his home when he was 15 to ask him to play cricket. BS Logic of yours and other sachin fanactics to come up with that. In west nobody gives a damn to such points and see where they're in every field internationally. You did it for yourself what you did and you got everything in return which you expected - simple. He spent over 20 years in cricket. Tell how many times he saved India (do not mention personal records here), just talk about India. Those 2 knocks in Sharjah, One in centurion against Pakistan, couple of other test match knocks, one ODI knock here and there. In 20+ years you can't come up with more than 10 innings on Tendulkar where he saved India from scars of defeat. Point is simple, The day he said after achieving his 100th century that it was his 22 year goal, that was enough as Indian fan to reach conclusion that he played for centuries in the end. In his mind he was destined to achieve 100th 100 and in that process he kicked **** of Kohli's epic knock and India's chances of winning another Asia Cup. Not to mention, where was his pride to come up infront of media as the best batsman of India when India was losing 8-0? He was okay to send youngster in press conferences. Thats a dont care country attitude right there when you cant defend your country in tough times.
The Outsider Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Dedicated his whole life? He is a great professional sportsman who has made a great living out of something he loves doing and is very good at. People dedicating their lives are the ones sitting in Siachen for $500 a month in inhuman conditions or similar things. Get some perspective - it's a game about who hits a round leather object the best with a piece of wood, not some frontier of humanity. Gavaskar's innings of 36 is still called a disgrace till this day close to 40 years later. Does anyone defend that innings by saying that "Oh the bowlers screwed up and conceded 330 runs which was near impossible to chase during those days, so he did some batting practice for the next match"? Mongia and Prabhakar's go slow and Prabhakar's century are criticized to this day. Does anyone say "Oh the required run rate was close to 10 an over when they started going slow, so might as well pick up a century"? What about Dravid's 12 off 96 deliveries? It was in a test match and played to secure a series win before going for the win in a test match and still he was lambasted for it. ICF was in existence at that time, so if anyone wants they can even dig up older posts to see the kind of criticism he got. And that innings was not even the cause of any loss - we ended up drawing the test and winning the series. It wasn't even played deliberately to target some personal milestone like Tendulkar's, but to ensure India wins the series. But calling Tendulkar's selfish innings which ultimately was a reason for getting knocked out of the tournament a disgrace makes people retarded chewtiyas.
Crookbond Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 You and I may have been reading different sites. It may have started stating that the innings was selfish, but its gone WAY past that Tendulkar compared to Mother Teresa :giggle::giggle: Mother Teresa is a piece of **** compared to Tendulkar - BTW I stopped reading there Holy Mother of GOD! I can't believe people are making such statements here. First, the one on Duncan Fletcher and now this. If there was a competition for the worst thing said on ICF, this would rank pretty close. :headshake:
Ultimate_Game Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 So whats this - "I might not have scored a single "international" run' date=' while Tendulkar has scored 100 "international" hundreds but [b']I can proudly say that I have never deliberately and willfully jeopardized the chances of any team I have been on, in any field to pursue my individual goals. But most of the folks are simply saying SRT shouldn't have slowed down to get his 100 and that's it. It's similar to the criticism Ganguly had to face when he lost India a game with slow batting against Pakistan in 2005 and I think it was already discussed in a thread somewhere the last couple of days. Doesn't mean people don't value or respect Ganguly's contributions to the team but at the same time doesn't mean Ganguly didn't put his interests ahead of the team's in that game. Same with Sachin. He's one of the greatest cricketers India has had, but he definitely deserves criticism for the innings just as any player in a similar position would have had.
Old guy Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Holy Mother of GOD! I can't believe people are making such statements here. First, the one on Duncan Fletcher and now this. It was a post along the lines that "What the feck have you done in your life to criticize Tendulkar?" By that barometer applied on cricket you can't even criticize Jadeja and applying it to a broader perspective if you can't say you have done anything in your life better than Tendulkar, you are just a sorry loser.

I can't be bothered to teach you the difference between success and joy of "playing"/"following your passion". I hope you will learn in future. "Success vs Joy" by Geet Sethi is a good start, if you are interested. Folks like you only will put Steve Jobs ahead of Dennis Ritchie - just because Steve Jobs' passion made him Billionaire and Dennis's didn't, but will put down Sachin because his passion made him billionaire cricketer, but didn't make other contemporaries/past greats rich enough.

To have your every action, watched and judged is an easy sacrifice for money. LMAO you talk like there is a whole abundance of talent in India. Lets get back to reality, Indians suck at sports. The other points have been discussed time and again. Not going back there.

I am not pulling Tendulkar down at all. I think it's a great success story and should be a lesson to every kid how you can be successful against the odds. I am simply putting in perspective the statement "Saching dedicated his life to the team" as I find it's way over the top coz you may be naive enough to think Sachin would have done the same even if he hadn't earnt a cent from cricket. IPL is proof enough that cricket's a profession like any professional sport and Tendulkar, like any other player, isn't just "dedicating his life to the team" but earning money from the game. As I mentioned in my earlier post such OTT comments are applicable for likes of Mother Teresa who did indeed dedicate her life to others.

Don't make it sound like a sacrifice. IMO every person would be willing to make such a "sacrifice" if given a choice. If he, or anyone wants personal privacy then career as a professional sportsperson is not for them.

Why you have a problem with that? Are you a Teresa Bhakt? That "reatarded" comment was in response to stuff like Sachin "dedicated his life to the team" :haha: I am sure that's why he dedicated so much time to IPL while opting out of WI tour coz it was not about money at all but only about love for the game :haha:

The Outsider Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Yeah, what dedication of life - let's see who hits a round leather object the best with a wooden stick. The world would have made so much progress if everyone started dedicating their lives doing that.
