Charge Against Indian Doctor Dropped

He is not innocent
That is your bigotry talking, not evidence.
Already his chaty-transcript suggests he knew what was about to happen.
Chaty-transcripts are baseless and can be modified by anyone to say anything they want. Given the nature of the Aussie government (the most racist of the western governments), its far more likely that they modified this to find a scapegoat than anything else.
Nobody in his/her right mind except his lawyer can buy the argument that he had no clue about what his chummy cousin was upto
Everybody who isnt a muslim-hater like you buys his story since we hold the same standards for everyone.
Hope next time clown gets nabbed with smoking gun before he actually ends up harming people.
That is, IF he is a clown in the first place.

He is not innocent for sure played his cards well and hence won freedom just wait and watch. Already his chaty-transcript suggests he knew what was about to happen. Hope next time clown gets nabbed with smoking gun before he actually ends up harming people.
Why should I wait and watch DR when he has already been released?? You do realize that had he not been innocent he would be behind the bars still? Yes/No? xxx

I am telling u for same level of association of sim-card sharing in india he wud still have been behind bars
In that case, you dont know what you are 'telling'. In India, you can give shelter to a terrorist unknowingly and still not get in trouble with the govt. if they can't prove your collusion with your 'house guest'.

@ Lurker and CC1981 It's a fact, majority of Crimes are committed by Muslims. You can read daily newspapers, in Mumbai alone starting from petty-petty crimes till Bombings in train, local buses and Zaveri Bazar market, burning of Radhabai chawl, attack on temple and list is looooong. All are committed by Muslims. Our pseudo-secular governance will never allow to list crimes as per "Religion" of the Criminal otherwise you will get the picture as clear as sky in Benaras. Eventhough you feel I am begotted or racist, I am fine with your accusation. Thank you. CC1981--- Bhaisahab you can't compare maoists insurgency in northeast with Msulim crimes and Islamic terrorism. Maoists include all-- atheists. hindus, buddhists, Christsins. while Bombing by Muslims is done only by them. But again I am racist/begotted so I am wrong.
That you certainly are, Sir, although you can't spell the word. So you reasoning goes thus: since Muslims populate the gaols in India, this fellow must be guilty as well? Wonderful. Going by that reasoning, all Germans are Nazis, all Indians are vegetarian weaklings, and the richest man in the world can't be from Mexico. You sir, need help. Soon. Oh, and can you take DR with you, please?

This is an interesting case and I've enjoyed reading some of the comments. Unfortunately, this debate has degenerated into name calling and become a slanging match. On a lighter note, interesting you added 'weaklings' to vegetarian, Dhondy. Bit of an issue there for you ?

I believe it's borne out of the warped reasoning that some Pakistanis use to explain India's lack of an express bowler.

A couple of observations. Because charges get dropped or withdrawn does not necessarily mean that person/those people are innocent. A case has to be proven in court. We often see family and friends of a victim outraged when a case is dismissed against a defendant because of 'not enough evidence' or 'there was no reasonable prospect of conviction'. Then there's the 'innocent' verdict in the OJ Simpson case. It's difficult to find anyone who believes Simpson is innocent. We also see/read of cases where (for instance) a person is released from custody, possibly after serving many years, because new evidence, such as DNA, proves them innocent. Or a death bed (or otherwise) confession clears someone who was 'proven' guilty and is serving time. I make no specific comment about the Dr Haneef case except to say since 9/11, most, if not all countries have tightened existing laws of aprehension where people can be detained without charges. The 'associating with known criminals' legislation has been widened and this is the area where Haneef was detained. There will be cases where an entirely innocent person gets held and there will also be the opposite scenario, where guilty parties 'get away with it' because of the two reasons stated above.

Exceptions are everywhere Donny, but the rule states that the defendant is innocent unless proven guilty. *Cheap shot alert* :P Surely we should let the judge and jury decide the fate, after all they are the 'umpires who make the decision', and we should abide by it.

True. I must say that it has bothered me considerably that many Indians still fail to accept that Haneef was innocent. If it was not the case he would still be behind the bars in a foreign land. The other day I was talking to a few friends of mine(they work in Delhi) and it seems they would have much rather been happy if Haneef was indicted on a false premise rather than accept that he was innocent. I do hope the number of such people are in minority. xxx

God only knows if he is completely innocent. When I saw his interview , he seemed to look innocent but since the new allegation of his trying to flee and his discomfort in answering that question..........i am not sure. Anyways It was already known that the Aussies wanted to get rid of the "problem " out of their land once the criticism grew stronger. Now we can just hope we haven't brought home the "problem". Anyways I feel every nation has the right to decide who they want to allow in their country specially keeping the security of it's citizens in mind .Just because we are a spineless nation more bothered about international opinion than the safety of our citizens...we shouldn't expect everyone to do the same.As an independent nation ...Australia has the right to decide who gets a visa and who doesn't. I can understand the sympathy given to him on this forum ...since most people here live away from their "motherland " . As for his being a muslim and hence being targetted....he should be thankful for being muslim because had he been a hindu(innocent or guilty) no one would have bothered and he would still be rotting in the jail. The PM only has tears for the minority and for the Press majority is disposable. Every single day the Amarnath pilgrims are attacked and still the PM 's priority is to relocate the Army from the valley.Does any one give a damn? A terrorist's cousin who may or may not be innocent is the Favourite son and the pilgrims can scr*ew themselves for belonging to the wrong religion. I had once read in a Pak forum that one muslim is equal to 100 hindus....In my country that is so true.

Suspended doctor may have owned forgery stamps AAP | Wednesday, 1 August 2007

Related Links • Subscribe to Archivestuff • Have your say AE1.gif An Indian-trained doctor suspended for allegedly lying about his employment history, may have owned rubber stamps allowing him to forge his medical credentials. Dr Mohammed Asif Ali, 26, was yesterday suspended on full pay from the Gold Coast Hospital after police drew the attention of Queensland Health to an "anomaly" in his record. Dr Ali was earlier this month interrogated by federal police over his relationship with another Indian doctor, Mohamed Haneef, who had been charged with terrorism related offences. Dr Ali was released without charge. Dr Ali was suspended from his hospital duties on Friday evening, around the same time Dr Haneef was freed from Wolston Correctional Centre, west of Brisbane, after the terrorism charge against him was dropped. Both doctors were recruited from Liverpool in England and sponsored on 457 work visas by Queensland Health. Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews yesterday ordered a sweep of visa applications by foreign-trained doctors to check for fake credentials, following the discovery of suspected inaccuracies in Dr Ali's work history. Queensland Premier Peter Beattie said he had been briefed about the discrepancies, based on claims Dr Ali lied about working in India, by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) last week. "During that briefing ... it was mentioned in passing in the briefing that there were issues in relation to Dr Ali in terms of some matters relating to some rubber stamps and some experience," Mr Beattie told ABC radio today. "I immediately asked for the federal police to pass on any information to state police so that those matters could be pursued. "That was subsequently done." At least two rubber stamps, each carrying the name and details of a different specialist at a medical college in Bangalore, India, are the subject of the investigation. The matter has been referred to the Crime and Misconduct Commission and the Medical Board of Queensland. Mr Beattie again today defended the vetting processes for foreign-trained doctors, introduced after the Jayant Patel scandal in Bundaberg. "We've brought in the toughest rules in Australia as a result of the Patel matter and we double check ... all credentials as best we possibly can," he said. However, Mr Beattie said Dr Ali's medical qualifications were not in doubt. "I am not aware if there's any issue relating to his qualifications, or his ability to practise as a doctor," he said. http://www.stuff.co.nz/4149084a12.html

And I won't be surprised if great Kaangressi government from Karnataka announces some free-flowing honors like promising a government job, getting photographed while putting garland on him and instantly make him a hero among so called "oppressed" minorities of India. Because they are "seculars".
