King Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Here's why, there's been about 3261 One day internationals played as of yesterday. There's been some predictable and unpredictable results. Mostly predictable. How many do you remember if you work overnight without looking at the stats on cricinfo? Perhaps, 10, 20, 50 or maybe even 100 if you start writing down. Now think of how many 100 100s you can think of has been scored in international cricket? Similarly, you will forever remember Bradman's average, the 2 200s so far in one day internationals, you will remember the world cup finalists, the feat by Lara (375, 400 and 501) and a handful ones. I rest my case.
rkt.india Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Sir ji if he had 99 100s, people would still have remembered like Bradman's average 99.

King Posted March 17, 2012 Author Posted March 17, 2012 Certainly but a round figure is something that always catches the eye. I can't understand why people fret so much always in India. India always tend to want to look for a scapegoat for defeats, mostly individuals. Now the loss is no more about bad bowling or fielding, it's just that Sachin got his 100 at less than run a ball. Post Australia, it was Dravid, now it's Tendulkar and at a later time Kohli and so forth. Never the team gets blamed for lack of basics.

Read other threads every one is criticized there, but you do not expect this from your premier batsman. We had 20 runs more and it was a win and it is not about defeat only. Win and loss are part of the game, but it is about approach, intent, and way of play.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Its not just yesterday's innings - there are certain people who just have to criticize him no matter how well he plays and that makes all of his 100s even more special. Its like whenever we win against Pakistan in an important match, the Padosis try to find kaanspiracy theories and try to downplay the importance of the match - that makes the victory sweeter for Indian fans. Similarly seeing the haters cry and complain so much whenever he plays well makes the innings a bit more special.

Just against Aus/SA/NZ/Eng he has over 50 100s and this is his first one vs Bangladesh in a ODI. Can't you folks take it easy against this man for just one game because he slowed down when approaching a huge milestone?

It is their place, their game, and their journey. We can just hope they try to win. Loss and win are part and parcel of the game. This loss is nothing after so much humiliation in last one year. But let you know, Michael Clark declared when he was on 329 and was easily going to break 400, but no for him a test win was more important.

But let you know, Michael Clark declared when he was on 329 and was easily going to break 400, but no for him a test win was more important. Well Tendulkar has never got to 329 as captain. Perhaps he would have declared. How do you know? Maybe you just have this perception that he plays for records. As for his 100, it's not now many a times he has slowed down nearing a 100. He is not in the Sehwag mould. In fact 9 out of 10 players usually slow down nearing a milestone. They just don't want to look stupid getting out close to a milestone more than having to miss out on a milestone. Have you thought about that?
Marut Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 This record is meaningless. Because a test hundred is much more valuable than a ODI hundred and it makes a mockery of the test hundreds to club it with odi hundred and come up with a round figure. The test hundred is like marks in a post graduate course and odi runs like the 10th class. So what we have is an individual adding up his marks in the 10th exam and the post graduate and claiming to have obtained so many total marks. Media is very good at creating such nonsense and they know fans will buy anything. A real milestone Sachin has reached ( or is about to) is 50 centuries apiece in different formats. But adding them makes no sense.

Btw, it is as made up as every 100, 50.... For me there is not much difference between 99 / 100.
Marut Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 And what is the reason many of the post graduates fail to pass class 10 exams - with similar distinction? Most do. There may be some exceptions. The highest degree is what matters. No one asks a nobel laureate what his 10th class marks are. Bevan was a superb ODI player but have you seen anyone rating him as an ATG? Test cricket is the real deal - and test records are many times superior to ODI records. A test 100 is probably three-five times the worth of a ODI hundred because you do not get any easy meals in test cricket, unless the bowling side is toothless and clueless like India.

Mine was more of a tongue in cheek comment. No doubt test 100s are tougher to get, in general. But I just found the analogy poor. 10th ->graduate -> Nobel - is sequential. Whereas ODIs and tests go hand in hand. Anyway, its useless debate - as I am not contesting the idea test 100 is tougher to come**. Though I do disagree on the random factors ( 3-4 times tougher than other). **conditions apply.
