As always, activist Anna HazareÃÔ fast generated political controversy by the time it ended at 6 pm, an hour behind schedule here today. Lead creator of the controversy was Anna himself as he took on his old adversary and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav, who had earlier needled the activist by advising him against going on fast. Å*alu ji had advised me to take rest and had expressed concerns about my health when I went on a fast last time. But I want to tell him that IÃÎ fit and fine and ready to serve the nation. How will a father of 10 ever know the power of a celibate? Anna said, as the gathering cheered him. Earlier in the day, another member of the Anna Hazare team, Manish Sisodia had made objectionable remarks against the president of Janata Dal United Sharad Yadav. After displaying at Jantar Mantar excerpts of Sharad YadavÃÔ December speech on the Lokpal Bill in the Lok Sabha, Manish Sisodia said: Å*okpal se darr (he is afraid of the Lokpal Bill) isko kehte hain chor ki daadi mein©ô The crowd filled in the blanks, even as JDU slammed the language as unparliamentary.

If Team Anna wants to achieve anything then there is one thing they absolutely must have - confidence of the Politicians (even if those Politicians are in Opposition) and its loosing the Politicians' confidence very fast because of these personal attacks. They need to realize that there is a fine line between political attacks and personal abuses and if they cross it then there will be very, very serious repercussions for every single member of Team Anna.

How does fighting against government corruption align with winning the confidence of the politicians?

IIRC early on in his movement when he was only talking about a strong Jan Lokpal Bill he had support across almost all opposition parties but now it seems that parties like BJP, JDU etc, while still in favor of a strong Lokpal Bill, are pissed off with the brazen display of arrogance from members of Team Anna. If Team Anna wants to get a strong Jan Lokpal Bill passed then it will have to work with the Politicians but I guess too much success too early in their campaign has gone over their head and now they think they can get the Politicians to do whatever they want. Because of their arrogant ways they have slowly started losing the support of the media as well as the public but they have not realized this yet and by the time they do realize this, it will be too late.

I may not have liked the idea of him calling politicians whatever ,but there is limit to everything .Something said about them and they are ready to pass a resolution against that .Fact of the matter is every little kid of aam aadmi thinks "Mera neta chor hai" etc etc In reality our country revolves around these politicians and I won't mind saything this government of the politicians , by the politicians , for the politicians

An extra-constitutional leader of popular opinion on a lollypop agenda like corruption is just the ticket against the incumbent party. The same parties, had they been in power would have been slinging mud at Anna and Anna would have the full backing of the congress with guest appearances at the dharnas by Sonia, Rahul etc. This was always a matter of political, rather than ethical positions as far as the politicians were concerned. What happened when the lokpal bill which the oppn. parties so thoroughly supported vocally came up in the house?

there is a difference between thinking "mera neta chor hai" and calling all politicians murderers and rapists in a huge public meeting attended by thousands of people and covered by the entire media of the country. In this case IMHO the politicians have every right to be offended and even take action if they want.

that was obvious right from the start and it seems everyone in the country realized this but Team Anna has not realized this even now and that is why they are attacking all politicians rather than just the Party/Coalition in power. People have been trying to get this bill passed for many decades but is hasn't happened so if Team Anna actually wants to get this Bill passed then they have to be very shrewd and they have got to have the support of either Cong or BJP - now Cong obviously won't support them but the BJP was in their favor till they started spouting venom against them also. Their entire movement is based solely on one thing - public support and I think you also would have seen that they have lost quite a bit of that in the last few months.

Sorry , Politicians do mudslinging at each-other every election [ which is sometimes worse than what he said eg Muut ka saudagar and what not ],but they don't think of bringing resolution to stop that nonsense .I've said earlier that that I don't support potshots at Politicians because it gives a chance to these Netas to divert people from real issues .

Do you really think Team Anna didn't know why they were getting the support of the oppn. parties? As for everyone knowing it from the start, i don't agree with you there. It's not that obvious and it takes a little more life experience to figure that out, some may find it 'obvious' only after it has been pointed out to them for instance.
