Cricketics Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Instead of the IPL finalists, should Baroda the winner of Domestic 2020 tournament and the other finalist Punjab get to go in Champions League? Most of the nations have their local teams participating in the tournament. I rather watch Indian domestic team in champions league than an IPL frenchise

I rather watch Indian domestic team in champions league than an IPL frenchise I would say no but as Baroda won today I'd say yes just for this year:winky:
Sid Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Remember an article by Aakash Chopra on this same issue where he expressed the same views as expressed in the O.P and I would also say yes they should get a place in CLT20.
Sid Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 But IPL teams have to be there in CLT20,otherwise there will be no Champions League, lol
1983-2011 Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 how about these both teams play qualifiers like kkr did last year and get in to clt20, they have 3 automatic spots for IPL teams while another 1 from qualifiers. IPL should have 2 teams directly in to clt20 while these two teams can try qualifiers and try to get in that way
ViruRulez Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Ethically yes but CL is a creation of IPL governing body. So, would not make sense to not allow the IPL teams to qualify. However, instead of going for 3 IPL teams, the third team can be made to the domestic T20 champions. But then there might be conflict. For example, if you take the example of this year's T20 then there are at least 5 big names of IPL in the team which won the final match. These include the Pathan brothers, Rayudu, Munaf Patel and Naman Ojha. I am not including the smaller players such as Bhargav Bhatt etc. who also play IPL and the reserves who are probably also part of IPL teams. So, if MI or DD were to qualify for CL T20 then they would have lost 2 domestic players and both important ones at that in their limited domestic reserves. So, it would be loss for the IPL teams. Hence, not possible.
Sidhoni Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 This is a topic discussed before the first season as well, but as the governing bodies are same, it can not happen.

I rather watch Indian domestic team in champions league than an IPL frenchise More Indian fans watch IPL than Syed Musthaq Ali tournament. So Ipl is the represents the Indian fans more and hence they deserve to be in CLT20. Ultimately its Indian fans who should decide whch represents them more.So as long as there is a massive difference in following IPL and SMA trophy its not even a debate.
