Sir john Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Mohammad Yousuf found himself at the centre of a controversy in the Bangladesh Dhaka Premier League one-day competition. Yousuf, a former Pakistan captain, who has been sidelined by the selectors since late 2010, has found himself dragged into a controversy because of a dispute between two premier clubs of the league, Mohammadan sporting club and Victoria club. "It is a strange and unheard of situation here. I have never found myself in such a position before in my career," a visibly upset Yousuf said from Dhaka. The dispute arose after Victoria signed on Yousuf for the one-day competition. Victoria claimed that they had included the Pakistani star in their eleven after his former club, Mohammadan sporting issued him a proper NOC letter of release. But after Mohammadan raised a hue and cry and described the clearance letter as a fake, a third club Abhani refused to complete a match against Victoria this week in which Yousuf was playing, leading to the suspension of the Premier league. Yousuf said according to his information a final decision would now be taken tomorrow at a meeting of the league organizing committee. "I came here to play because I don't want to lose touch with cricket," he said. Interestingly, Latif ur Rehman Badal who issued the clearance letter to Yousuf in January this year when he was with Mohammadan sporting club has now joined the governing board of the Victoria club. But he claims the clearance letter is not a fake and was issued in January on Yousuf's request. "Yousuf had played for Mohammadan last season but this season since he had offers from Victoria and other clubs he sought the clearance from us as per the league regulations," Badal said. Pakistani cricketers have been featuring prominently in the Bangladesh domestic events as they are paid well. But many of the players who took part in the Bangladesh Premier League in February have still complained off non payment of their dues. According to some of these players their payments were to be cleared on March 23rd by their franchise and league organisers but this has not happened as yet. "So far I have only got 25 per cent payment," one player said.
Laaloo Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 LOL at I have never found myself in such a position before in my career," a visibly upset Yousuf said from Dhaka. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

The guy has no moral qualms whatsoever and will do anything for some extra bucks or for becoming a captain.

Ultimate_Game Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 :finger::finger::finger: He changed the religion because of Prophet Muhammad SAW's character...but why would you be interested in that.... low life comment. yup I can see the "character" part alright. The guy went to ICL for money and then reneged on his contract as PCB made him the captain :hysterical:
Utalk Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 yup I can see the "character" part alright. The guy went to ICL for money and then reneged on his contract as PCB made him the captain :hysterical: That's complete BS. Yousaf was never made captain because he left ICL. He joined ICL because he is an emotional kind of guy and did not get on with Malik who got the captaincy. He left ICL and played under YK. He was a stop gap captain for NZ/Aus and he knew it. I am not the biggest fan of Yousaf and never liked him throwing tantrums but linking him changing religion to become captain is pathetic. He became Muslim in 2005 and left for ICL in 2008. Left ICL in 2009 and played under YK.

Yup he's emotional where money is concerned :haha: it was clear to anyone who followed him in 2000s that he simply wanted to be a captain, and whether you like it or not this is people's perception about himn as in Pakistan a non-muslim can't be a captain and Yusuf did everything in his powers to remedy that and hey prest! He finally becomes a captain!!! As soon as he was dropped or he found out he can't be a captain he went for money like a mercenary to ICL and did an about-turm when PCB got him back dangling the captaincy carrot. If you think Yusuf would have become a captain while he was still a Christian then you are naive and living in a world of denial. Every position of matter in Pakistan will only be for muslims and non-muslims are 2nd class citizens there. Yusuf knew that and hence change in religion which helped him out to realize his dream. As for Yusuf being a stop-gap captain, in Pakistan there's no such thing as a non-stop gap captaincy. It's a free for all and anyone who gets it is the king and Yusuf knew as much.

Ultimate_Game Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 What about all these people? Are you saying Yusuf's motives were any different? it was clear in one of Yusuf's interviews around the time he converted why he had to do it. He mentioned during early to mid 2000s players like Inzi, Anwar (who was close to the pak players at the time) etc. were extremely religious and at that time there used to be regular prayer sessions and Yusuf felt out of place and in fact was even hinted that he should join the rest of the team than stand out like a sore thumb. Essentially he gave in and took the easier way out. Maybe these articles would be an eye-opener for you... http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Pakistani-Christians-convert-to-Islam-because-of-threats-and-intimidations-21041.html http://www.thecuttingedgenews.com/index.php?article=51589&pageid=24&pagename=Society And if you really want to know why Yusuf really did convert why not google "plight of minorities in Pakistan" and you will get your answer. The guy had no way to become a captain and took the easiest way out and he was finally rewarded for doing so :haha:
jusarrived Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 CG & Utalk , it has nothing to with Islam , but its a fact that MoYo comes across as a very sly person & his greed for money is way too obvious . Very smart though , cos one which wold help him climb the popularity charts in Pakistan he did exactly that .

Here you go on Yusuf's conversion... Thereafter, religion became a badge the Pakistani cricketers were willing to wear publicly, particularly Inzimam, whose shy and retiring personality acquired an assertive edge under the influence of Maulana Tariq Jameel. Perhaps religion provided Inzimam an anchor in the glamorous and corporate world that cricket has become and which he as a Multani must have found alienating. With the skipper under its sway, Tableeghi Jamaat now had an open field, winning over players in a number that the team could be said to be divided between the TJ and non-TJ groups. Inzimam, however, denies any rift in the team: "The team is selected purely on the basis of merit. Believe me; nobody is compelled to do something he does not want to. There is no pressure on any player to join the collective namaz five times a day. Those who say otherwise have never offered prayers, nor have any links to Islam, which does not force anyone on the issue of religion." He furnishes proof of his contention thus, "Look at the players yourself. Only four players who toured South Africa - Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and myself -- have beards. Our religious activities have never stopped a match." However, Inzimam strongly believes that the preaching sessions of the cricketers with Islamic scholars help develop unity in the team, and that his own piety enables him to overcome distractions on tours abroad. However, critics allege that most team members have grown beards as a show of allegiance to the captain and boosting their chances of being in the squad. Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed are counted among prime examples. There is also the peculiar case of Mohammad Yousaf, who converted from Christianity and seemingly never shaved thereafter. Despite repeated denials, many of the Pakistanis feel that Yousaf Youhana converted to boost his chance of becoming captain in the future. Source: http://www.defence.pk/forums/strategic-geopolitical-issues/4272-islamisation-pakistani-cricket.html Here's another one... Following the death of Saeed Anwar's daughter he took to a more fundamental Islam and started growing a beard. He was then said to have been the turning point in the Islamisation of the Pakistani cricket team, which was also a reason for Yousuf Youhana's conversion to Islam. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_and_sports To anyone who followed pak cricket in early to late 2000s it was clear the way Paki team was becoming more a "religious" unit with Inzi, Anwar, Mushtaq, Saqlain etc. in or around the team. Yusuf had no option but to convert else he risked being the outcast and never become a captain.

Ultimate_Game Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 am out of here...same old talks..posting an old article doesnt mean its a fact... Yeah sure! And am even surer that Yusaf's technique with the bat improved after converting as you think :haha: The guy had no place to go to in that Pak team where every player was becoming a mullah, headed by the captain Inzimam, and had absolutely no choice other than converting. And guess what! He did become a captain after converting!!! I am sure it was a coincidence as well just like the articles/reports from pakistan itself. maybe try googling "Islamisation of Pakistan cricket" and you will get more info why Yusaf had to do what he did.

Look at all Aussies & other firangi players who dance at tune of IPL owners despite dissing Indian players in past like Hayden,Gilchrist & Symmonds.....Why Indian players even their captain :giggle: ditch their national duty in test series to play IPL....even your GOD in 90s used to dance at tunes of tobacco companies like WILLS when he was not that rich but now he has all the money refuses to endorse tobacco & alcohol products....hypocrisy at its best

They don't act all religious and stuff and "preach" religious stuff and then act like a mercenary and in fact go so low as to convert just to become captain. This is what I was talking about and said Yusuf should be the last person to be surprized and claim this is the first time it has happened to him when all his life he has done everything in his power to attain power (captaincy) & money (ICL).
