I think other than being threat to Congress, Modi is actually a clear challenge to Sonia Gandhi. The very idea of the surname Gandhi getting challenged by a man who has risen from grassroots, Modi raises huge implications for them. Many have mentioned Congress ideology and how 2014 elections will be fought on that. But we all know Congress ideology really is all about Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi is simply irrelevant as it is all about Sonia Gandhi and her worry of Modi. No wonder, all this abusive language is coming from Congress on her behalf.

Rahul, Modi not fit to be PM, it's time for the Third Front: Odisha CM New Delhi: As the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party battle it out over the coal scam and internal crisis, Third Front leaders are stepping up. Speaking to IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told CNN-IBN that both Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi don't make the prime ministerial cut and that the Third Front's time has come. "Let me make it quite clear that my party is equidistant from both the Congress and the BJP. I think a Third Front will be a very healthy alternative, but it's still early days to discuss that option," Patnaik said. When asked about Modi's elevation, Patnaik said, "Well I am not enthusiastic about his elevation. But as far as party matters are concerned, that's an internal matter of the BJP." He also refused to comment on the LK Advani issue. "The recent events in the BJP, I repeat again are internal matter of that party. I wouldn't like to speculate further," Patnaik said. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/rahul-modi-not-fit-to-be-pm-its-time-for-the-third-front-odisha-cm/397937-37-64.html

^^^^^ He's been saying that for some time. Cannot rule that but definitely can say a third party front based on combination of regional parties will be worst thing in India.

Actually the entire Congress party is used to protect SoniaG. And Modi is the first challenger ever in this country who has that name and presence to challenge SoniaG. Their politicians talk about arrogance of others yet it's their head who is most isolated and protected person in India. And recently, she proved that again by saying that one can removed in minutes.

he campaigned in UP in 2007 and 2009 - BJP did poorly both times. He campaigned extensively in Maharashtra in the last Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections and BJP/SS lost both times despite Cong/NCP's poor performance. Modi has no presence outside Gujarat and has not proved himself anywhere outside his won state. In fact even in his home state, BJP has not won a lot of Lok Sabha seats in both 2004 and 2009 - BJP won more seats than Cong but it wasn't exactly a whitwash in Lok Sabha for Cong in Modi's home state.

You do realize that presence changes consistency. And his presence has only increased.Your excuse is like as Player A has only scored runs domestically so we cannot allow him to debut in a bigger stage. And also there seems no problem when Player G who has been in the team for long time brings his/her son despite the son having never played in domestics.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't allow Modi to go to a bigger stage - what I am saying is that directly putting in him charge of all elections is wrong because he has no presence and has not proved himself. He should have been made in charge of polls in 4 states in November elections first. Of course there'a problem with player G directly playing the World Cup Final without even making his Domestic Debut but Cong is now a Pvt. Ltd company and there's nothing anyone can do about it. BJP doesn't run on those lines so here Modi shouldn't be given such a big responsibility without proving himself.

You make it sound like if there is a lot of possibilities and choices out there. A step by step approach is good in textbooks, but when you need to win big elections, you need big decisions.

Nope, the congress sincerely want to put Rahul Gandhi on the top. The problem is he or the party is too indecisive and scared of taking the wrong step, that he hesitates from taking any major position in the government before being elevated. It would be a monumental mistake to elevate Rahul as PM before he proves himself in some sort of ministerial capacity. Handling Rahul with kid gloves is not going to lead the Congress anywhere

Nitish held meetings with all his MLAs yesterday night and is now talking to independent MLAs in bihar - looks like he's ready to break off with the NDA after Modi's elevation. And here we have people talking of more allies joining because of Modi

Nitish plan to leave NDA from some time , thats why he is begging money from Central govt. Modi can bring Amma , at current stste she is goign to win lot of seats in TN. I dont think its too difficult to bring Mamata and Jagan either.

Nitish's main problem was Modi's growing stature. Now that Modi has officially elevated to a National Role, Nitish is ready to quit. He has worked hard for a long time to build a substantial following among the Muslims and he sees that joining hands with a Modi led BJP would lead to those committed voters going elsewhere so he's not exactly wrong in leaving.

He won't lose entire muslim support base, he can maintain his distance by not goign with Modi for campaign etc. My hunch is Con party stuck some deal with him , he is ambitious politician.

Modi is the Campaign Chief of the BJP so there's really no way to avoid him if JDU is in an alliance with the BJP. State BJP leaders will ask Modi to come and campaign in Bihar and he will also want to do that to prove a point to Nitish while JDU will not want him to campaign - that will create a big controversy. Its not a question of him losing the Muslim support base - its really a question of Lalu gaining it. People have completely written off that wily old fox but he's been doing a lot of work lately and some % of Muslim support may be the difference between Lalu wining 2-3 seats and winning 12-15 seats. I think Nitish will leave NDA right now nut will rejoin it later when its clear that Modi will not be the leader of the BJP in 2014 elections.

That doesnt make sense as BJP don't have anyother choice. You can't go to a major election without a entral figure leader. If BJP officially project him as a PM candidat or not, they have to project him as the No1 leader. as for Lalu , he is going to comeback , people are fickle minded.

Hindutva’s warrior Hindustan Times New Delhi, June 11, 2013

Challenging the Nehruvian consensus from the Right has been LK Advani's lifelong mission. When his memoir My Country My Life was released, Arun Jaitley said the single most important contribution of Advani is that he redefined the debate on "pseudo-secularism" vs secularism. From "pseudo-secularism" to "minority appeasement" to "cultural nationalism", Advani coined the lexicon of the post-Independence BJP. Advani created a movement that demolished the Babri Masjid, but the ruined masjid has taken its revenge on Advani. The word "secularism" has dogged Advani's footsteps, a word he has by turn rubbished yet sought to re-interpret. The word secularism was the reason he was thrown out of party presidency by the sangh when he asserted that MA Jinnah was secular. Today Advani, the anti-secular Hindutva icon, finds his own complicated relationship with the word "secular" interrupted by a hardline personality cult that has no time for those tortured old debates. As Moditva becomes the reigning ideology of the BJP, who cares anymore about an octogenarian's decades long ideological battle with the Congress vocabulary? No wonder the patriarch is in open revolt. As his party elects by democratic process the choice of the cadres, Advani has *****ed the Modi bubble by making allusions to a Hitler, Mussolini and 'personal agendas''. Advani may be motivated by ambition. Advani may hope that his own newly acquired "moderate" image, will be a magnet for future allies ranging from the BJD to the JDU to the TMC and that he - and not Modi - is better placed to be the prime ministerial choice even at the age of 85, and even after leading his party to defeat in 2009. Advani's own political cycle has gone from Jana Sangh moderate to Hindutva hardline to post-Vajpayee moderate again. He's seen the immediate popularity rush of a polarising movement, he's also seen the electoral pitfalls of such a movement. The BJP went from two seats to 182 in the Atal-Advani era but even then it took the inclusive persona of a Vajpayee to cobble together the vote- catching NDA. Perhaps Advani has understood the electoral maths better than the Modi acolytes in the BJP, repeatedly asking the party to reach out to minorities, going on record to say the demolition of the Babri Masjid was "the saddest day of my life". Perhaps Advani has another fear. Perhaps what Advani, a party man for six decades, really fears is that Modi's personality cult will undermine the inner-party democracy in Delhi just as it has in Gujarat. That under Modi, the party he and Vajpayee built will cease to exist. Modi's rise is spectacular. An up-by-his-bootstraps pracharak from the small town of Vadnagar in Gujarat, is now "the" face of the BJP. However much the BJP may say that Modi is only the head of the campaign committee, or that he is one among a "galaxy" of leaders, that he is still not the declared prime ministerial candidate, the fact is post 2014 Modi will be the natural claimant to the top job. What kind of politics does Modi represent? Narendra Modi's economic model in Gujarat may be admired as business-friendly market economics. But his political model in Gujarat is vintage Indira Gandhi. Perhaps LK Advani, always a man of the party, anti- Emergency warrior against the Congress for decades, senses precisely this. Indira Gandhi exemplified ruthless power politics and extreme centralisation of power. When the Gujarat BJP's Haren Pathak declared that "Modi is the BJP and the BJP is Modi", he sounded eerily similar to famous Congress loyalist DK Baruah who said "India is Indira and Indira is India". In 1969 Indira Gandhi threw out the Congress old guard or the Syndicate, split the party and formed a Congress party loyal only to herself and her own ideology of populist socialism. This party was totally subordinated to Indira's towering personality cult, it was a cult in which the Supreme Leader reached over the head of the party to create a direct covenant with voters. Like Modi, Indira's chemistry with crowds was legendary, she ruled through loyal bureaucrats and destroyed party institutions that her father respected until his dying day. The Modi model of politics in Gujarat is strikingly similar. From Keshubhai Patel to Kanshi Ram Rana to Suresh Mehta, members of the Gujarat BJP have been systematically sidelined or eased out of the BJP. Modi rules Gujarat through his loyal bureaucrats, just as Gandhi did. His political opponents have been vanquished in true Indira style. The BJP cut its teeth in anti-Emergency protests, but Moditva retains within itself traces of the Emergency. Modi is known for his trenchant attacks on the media, books like Great Soul by Joseph Lelyveld have been banned in Gujarat, action was taken against films like Fanaa, and human rights bodies and trade unions in Gujarat have been rendered dysfunctional. With Modi's constant targeting of the media as "biased" will there come a time when a "biased" media is sought to be tamed just as Indira Gandhi once clamped down on an "anti-national" Press? Towering personality cults inevitably undermine democracy. On Hindutva, Modi remains a figure who mobilises but also polarises. Does Modi want to be figure of administrative efficiency who creates big growth but in the process also ends up, much like Gandhi, demolishing institutions of public accountability? Or does he want to keep up the ideological challenge to Nehruvianism by debating with the enemy in democratic terms? We can question Advani's methods of publicly denouncing his own party. But as the 85-year-old yatri fades into the sunset, his message can't be ignored. How very ironical that it has taken the politician who was the ideological mascot of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement to today being portrayed as the reluctant fundamentalist. Modi is another Indira Gandhi type of leader in the making and Indian doesn't need that.

Lol, Modi destroying public institution, really?. I know people love comparing Modi with everyone and everything. That's how they learn their rotis. Sagarika is no different and if you knew more of her opinions, you wouldn't have put that article here This comparison is absurd.

That's her core point yet there is so many problems with that. Public accountability? Democratic terms? The Congress government do not really believe in that, although they do for destroying institutions.:rofl:
