Khalpat Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Mods please merge this thread if there is any thread for Random Stats Interesting statistics of all the batsmen of touring team who have enjoyed playing in particular country and conditions, Top 5 batsman with their averages. Min Qualification: Average 35 and number of matches depend on the frequency of test matches played in that particular country Australia(Qual: 15 Matches) W Hammond 62 J Hobbs 58 J Edrique 55 S R Tendulkar 53 L Hutton 50 England (Qual: 15 Matches) Don Bradman 102 Steve Waugh 74 Chandrapaul 66 A Border 66 Viv Richards 64 India(Qual: 10 Matches) C Loyd 75 A Kalicharan 58 M Hayden 51 M Gatting 50 J Miandad 49 N Zealand(10 matches) C Cowdrey 56 A Border 50 S Tendulkar 49 S Waugh 35 Saleem Malik 35 Pakistan (10 Matches) S Gavaskar 59 M Amarnath 57 SR Tendulkar 40 A Desilva 38 S Africa(10 Matches) J Hobbs 65 W Hammond 62 CP Mead 48 R T Ponting 46 S R Tendulkar 46 W Indies (Qual: 10 Matches) S Gavaskar 70 S Waugh 68 R Dravid 65 R Ponting 61 J Kallis 55 Sri Lanka(Qual: 5 Matches) S Fleming 104 S Anwar 74 Sehwag 69 Sachin 67 Siddhu 63 It seems Englad has been good place for visitors and Pakistan has been one of the worst place for visitors. Alan Border, S Gavaskar and S Tendulkar have enjoyed batting most in alien conditions.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Some observations... 1. SRT phucked up on his last tour to Aus else he would be sitting at the top. Ditto against Eng as he would have been on the list against ENg but for a poor last series. Those 2 tours really hurt his legacy. 2. How come Sehwag is not on the list in Pakistan. He averages 90+ against pakis and scores everytime India toured Pakis in 2000s. In his case the min. matches qualification rule should be exempted coz his was a special case since no team can tour Pakis anymore :haha: 3. Hats off to Gavaska for owning WI in WI and that too when batting was more difficult and WI had much better bowling attack :hatsoff: 4. Surprised Vengsarkar doesn't show up on the list against England as he used to get 100s against them for fun and as per my knowledge one of the very few non-Eng batsman (maybe the only one) to have scored 3 100s at Lord's 5. Indians cashed in against SL and I have no doubt they top the list against Bangbros as well :haha:

Vengsarkar just averages 48 in England in 23 innings so he would be very low in list even if the minimum matches played count is decreased. In Srilanka only Sachin and Dravid have played more than 10 tests. Out of which Sachin averages 67 and Dravid 38. that is why for Srilanka I made the min test qualification as 5. But look at the average of Fleming there.

Make qualification criteria against Pakis to 5 tests as well just like against SL since the current pre-requisite of 10 tests will rule out most of the current players. As for SL was hoping to see Lara in that list as he used to man-handle Murali and on his last tour to SL he scored 2 double tons.

I wanted to make criteria as such that the batsman has at least toured the country twice or thrice. Lara averages 100 in Sri lanka but he has played just 4 Tests and I guess all of them in the same series. As far as Pakistan is concerned, here is the list if we make the count 5 V Sehwag 91 Samarweera 90 G Kirsten 88 K Sangkarra 86 J Kallis 83 But somehow I feel the original averages and players are much more worthy of being called as being comfortable in Pakistan. S Gavaskar, Amarnath, Sachin and Desilva. They have played Imran, Sarfaraz, Wasim, Qadir in their prime.

These players have scored tons of runs against the said teams and just because they didn't play 10 Tests they don't deserve to be left out.

No man atleast two or three series in that country or else S Patil averages 191 in England but it was just one series he played in that country and two matches no one even Bradman is close if we are going to consider a fluke series. Give them the beating consistently in series after series in their own country then make a name in the list.
master22 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Dravid avgs almost 70 in England.Has he not played 15 matches?
Shunya Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 interesting stats...although sample size for minimum innings would have been better than minimum matches... like Dravid in England 13 matches - 23 innings - 68.80 avg... which is clearly worthy

Utalk Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Criteria is flawed. Aus and Eng play each other more often so their batsmen will lead these charts. We have likes Yousaf,YK and Salim Malik who have scored bucket loads in Eng in games they played. YK has played two series in Ind and scored plenty, Sehwag and Dravid scored heavily in Pak but this criteria means they don't feature in these lists.

Yousuf averages 54 in England and Younis Khan averages 51 in England so even if I make the criteria as less number of matches be sure they will not feature in even Top 15. As far as Dravid and Salim Malik are concerned thats true they have made loads of runs in england and if I make the criteria as 10 matches then for England it would be D Bradman S Waugh R Dravid ChandraPAul Salim Malik Younis Khan averages 78 in India but Zulfiqar Ahmed averages 104 so there should be a critera of matches played and 10 matches means atleast 3 series which unfortunately Dravid and Sehwag have not played in Pakistan.
Shunya Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 dude...u r manipulating the criterias...if a player has to play 3 series...than ur stats for newzealand is also incorrect.... Dravid has been to 3 tours to NZ and his avg is 63.83 in 7mat 14inns i hope this is not another Sachin glorification thread...

This thread was meant for players who have scored good in particular countries and have played many matches too. Isn't it obvious that SRT who has played most number of matches will get reflected in some of them. Sir Viv and Lara are also not their in any list does this mean they were any less batsman, this is for consistency with longevity. I agree with your match criteria point, I have reduced the number of matches for eligibility so that batsman who have atleast played three series will come up in the list. Will post them shortly. Aus - Eng (12 Matches) Ind-Nz-SAF-WI (9 Matches) Pak-SL (6 Matches) .

adi B Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 where is zimbabwe, they should also be there.. they were a dangerous side nd a nightmare for teams from subontinent
Ultimate_Game Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 where is zimbabwe' date=' they should also be there.. they were a dangerous side nd a nightmare for teams from subontinent[/quote'] Zimbos did beat "formidable" Paki team of 90s in Pakiland :giggle:
Crookbond Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Zimbabwe was a team which India always struggled with.
