coffee_rules
Can't forgive this man for giving away the chance of a Test match win for the sake of perceived safety. It's criminal, to be honest. Do hope he retires in the blaze of his faint-hearted glory and makes way for somebody more intrepid, somebody who doesn't look the gift horse of a 320 run lead in the mouth. Don't you think it is a team decision in this case? If he asks his bowlers - Zaheer and Kumble if they were ready to bowl again and if they had said that they were tired, should he have been pin-headed to ask them to bowl despite their condition? He had the bigger picture of a series win in mind, rather than giving any chance of a Eng win, and yes, enforcing the follow-on would have been that window of oppurtunity for Eng to level the series. Yes, he could have declared a few overs earlier, but given that Eng were 4 wkts in the end, we would probably have needed atleast 20-25 overs more. If we were 1-1 or 0-1 trailing into the 3rd test, yes, not enforcing the follow-on and going for the kill would have been a worst sin of a negative captain. But we already had the series in the kitty, so why should the team take that risk just so that their fans go (bra)(sha)gging about. Link to comment
