jairamesh Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Lorgat presents ICC ODI shield to Australia (http://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/article3522904.ece) Haroon Lorgat, while congratulating Michael Clarke and his team for retaining the number one ranking, said: "In the past 20 years the Australian team has maintained an amazing grip on the Reliance ICC ODI shield. They have simply dominated the 50-over format and show no signs of relinquishing their crown. "This is the third successive year that Australia has been the top ODI side and indeed their dominance stretches back to 2002. Only in 2008 and 2009, when South Africa pushed them into second place, has Australia not been the number one side at the April 1 cut-off date. Seems these yellow feckers have been no.1 like forever.
Dravid_TheWall Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 We know who the real number one yellows are. Super Kings.
Lord Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 We know who the real number one yellows are. Super Kings. any team who has Jaddu in thier team n pays 2 milz for that doesnt deserve to be no.1
Dravid_TheWall Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 any team who has Jaddu in thier team n pays 2 milz for that doesnt deserve to be no.1 He is the one guy who pisses me off in that team, he had a haircut with initials CSK but it wasn't enough. Otherwise super kings all the way. Don't care if KKR one, CSK are the real heroes of the IPL. Staying on topic, Australia are still a good ODI side. But the gap is less at the top now. Rankings may say number 1 for Aus but I think on paper SA may be better. We are slighly below IMO on sporting pitches even in ODI due to poorer bowling attack. But we are still up there.
India-KXIP fan Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Yeah right. World Champions are always the real No. 1. Keep winning meaningless series'. /thread
jj_28 Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 For Test, Rankings are important for ODI its all about the WC
Executioner Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 SA are much better on paper, but I think Johan Botha is one of those overrated players SA have. Qualitywise he no better than Ashwin and battingwise he is a bit better than jaddu. Apart from that SA is brilliant Du PLessis De Villiers Robin Pietersen Ingran Kallis Amla Albie Smith Morne Morkel Steyn Tsotsobe Philander De Lange Du Plessis Considering how strong this lineup is, even the Asia XI cant beat this side in any format, considering Asia XI(For all formats): Sehwag Gambhiri Kolhi(May be replaced with Umar akmal for T20s only) Sangakkara Shakib Dhoni Mathews Malinga Umar Gul Abdur Razzak Ajmal Bench: Mashrafee, Zaheer, Perera, Raina, Jaya, Nasir
Crookbond Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Yeah right. World Champions are always the real No. 1. Keep winning meaningless series'. /thread :WTF: It's not like that I love Australia but this should be one of the most arrogant blanket statements made. Their decline in Test matches hasn't affected them in ODIs. I am not surprised at the ranking.
India-KXIP fan Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 World Cup is treated like regular matches by the ODI rankings which it absolutely shouldn't be. ODI rankings are flawed. I know your all upset with Indian team right now but they should be No.1 atm because World Cup win should have more weightage.
IKnowU Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 These rankings dont have any value to them........nobody cares other then the die hard fans to whine about. It wouldnt make any difference for Pakistan to be no. 1 other then maybe to the pakodi phorum.
Cricket Tragic Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 World Cup is treated like regular matches by the ODI rankings which it absolutely shouldn't be. oODI rankings are flawed. I know your all upset with Indian team right now but they should be No.1 atm because World Cup win should have more weightage. Agree with the bit in bold. However, winning the WC should not automatically make a team number 1 in the rankings.

But, to say Australia are keeping winning "meaningless" series is preposterous. Let me remind you that they did reach the QF's of the WC and lost to eventual winners India. Please FCS - Stop pretending that Australia win "meaningless" series. They doing more than just fine in ODIs.
India-KXIP fan Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Agree with the bit in bold. However, winning the WC should not automatically make a team number 1 in the rankings. Yeah not automatically but India was No.2 at the start of WC...
adi B Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 yeah, such a great #1 side. lost to pak in wc, lost 2-3 vs england in england, drew 2-2 vs #8 rank team windies, most pathetic of all- lost 4 matches vs lanka at home :hysterical: yeah deserving #1.. enjoy the status, while we are the wc holders for another 3 years at least
Robelinda Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I do think that WC wins should count more, but Australia have won some impressive series in ODI's, like in SA last year, not many teams win ODi series in SA. In fact, i think we have won our last 3 or 4 odi series away from home, i'm not sure any other team can boast that record. Obviously the WC was a disappointment, but that shouldn't make us lose double points and not be #1. Other countries have had some poor results in odi cricket since the world cup, obviously India would be the worse off, even if they did gain extra points for the WC it wouldn't matter as the heavy defeats since in England, Australia & the Asia cup would've seen them lose #1 even if it was awarded to them after the WC. Plus, no way was Pakistan still world champions or #1 after the 92 WC, same for SL in 96, they couldn't win anything away from home back then, and weren't even close to #1, much like Australia in 1987 too.
Robelinda Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Also being #1 doesn't mean you have a PERFECT record in ODI's, no team is undefeated 100% of the time, you just have to be win more matches than #2.....
King Khan Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 #1 is sounds good to me. Its just not us is the problem atm. Soon it will change I hope. But if they can hold it until Ausie summer starts, this record will keep favouring them I guess.
Square Drive Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 There is no clear #1 team in world cricket at the moment, so "Any day, any team can beat anybody". :giggle:
