He was being sarcastic
My bad. I don't rate Bevan tbh. Dhoni is definitely better than Bevan, one can argue about the bowlers he faced as i do but I don't think Dhoni has the ability to win a match single handedly. Dhoni always takes time before going after the bowling, I can remember a few inns where he left it too late and sometimes almost losing an easy chase. He always depends on others to contribute before he gets in but as usual he always gets the credit for the likes of Yuvrajs, Rainas, Kohlis, Gambirs contributions, which many a time, in my opinion, were the key knocks.

But Dhoni hardly faced quality bowlers rather never faced quality bowlers. There's hardly any death over specialists in world cricket in this era. Wasim, Waqar, Ambrose, Walsh, Gough, Vaas, Donald, Pollock, McGrath, Lee, Bond were the lethal death bowlers in the previous era but more over finished when Dhoni established himself. I'm not blaming Dhoni here but you can't just leave out the fact that bowlers nowadays are nothing compared to these above mentioned guys. ICC is doing everything to make ODIs a batsman's game. When bowlers started to use the 34 over old ball in a better way, ICC came out with a new ball from either end, invented power plays. I'm pretty sure Bevan would've converted those 1s and 2s into 4s if the field restrictions were available those days.
With or without field restrictions, Bevan is quite a bit incompetent at finding boundaries. He simply was not a power hitter and i dont think i remember Bevan ever hitting a six. Even his fours were timed nudges that barely made it to the rope and 90% of the time, Bevan lacked any conceivable power to hit a boundary. With bevan, it used to be like this- Bevan nudges to the offside cover point area, the ball beats the infield, takes forever to get to the boundary, bevan scampers 3 runs while the sweeper returns the ball. Bevan ultimately is your perfect man for ticking the scoreboard over. But if 10 is required off the last over, he is not going to get it done 99% of the time.

Even Dhoni has faced and done well against the likes of Steyn, Morkel, Lee, Akhtar, Malinga etc.

I'd pick Dhoni over Bevan' date=' but sometimes it feels as if his (Dhoni's) method of finishing an innings is like throwing a child in front of a speeding bus and then saving it, and collecting the plaudits. 40 to win off 40 balls are situations which he makes complex, if you notice.[/quote'] nah its 80 from 80 which he messes up if there are less balls from start he does well for some reason and when runs are very less or lets say less then 50 he usually does the job

In ODIs, he more often than not gets it. The part you said happens when he's running out of partners.
