good read. We've had too many good players who have not had the right guidance at the right time and have therefore failed to reach their full potential or have become quite good in the shorter version but still fail in Test matches. The BCCI needs to use recently retired former players like Ganguly, Dravid, Kumble etc as mentors if they want the next generation of Indian cricketers to not squander their talents like Sreesanth or Irfan Pathan or even Raina (in Tests).

what an asinine column by self proclaimed cricket guru.Who says Selectors and BCCI are pushing things under the carpet. They have given ample opportunities to both Yusuf and Jadeja to show what they can do and both of them failed miserable, just to have namesake all rounder in team they cannot continue with those failures. Raina was playing with Dravid in the team for all these years, if wanted to take suggestions and implement it.He would have done that already. Irfan Pathan was talking last year as if it was injuries that kept him from being good,The fact remains he has no pace and is liability when it comes to bowling in odis so forget about tests. He continues live in LALA land has never shown any improvement. Dont they have NCA already where these guys rehab and train. Same with Bhajji,he had/has ample time to interact with Kumble and others to work on his bowling.May be he did and it still is not working for him. The same hardened man Gooch was working with Ravi Boparra.Where did that lead Boparra. Nobody plays with five bowlers in ODIs, anyhow Vinay kumar and co are not that better from what Raina and Rohit will offer for 10 overs. Munaf patel ,RP singh and others he has mentioned never had that great ability to begin with so question of losing them does not arise. RP singh has one fricking okay season and that too on very helpful conditions and he is fat lazy slob.

Irfan Pathan had a very decent second innings with the Indian team, 13 wickets in 8 games, some match winning spells and some quick 30 and 40's at a very higher strike rate, he deserves a place in the side, more talented and versatile the Mathews, Perera, MCkay, he should be used smartly as a opening bowler who can swing and attack and bowl 7 overs at the start and then also his batting should be made use of as he is a better batsmen then most Indians who have a problem on faster tracks. To make a stronger team Irfan should play in all three versions of the game as an attacking option , Dhoni is not a big fan of him or supports him ,Awana, Shami need to come into the picture as ODI and test bowlers respectively,Zak won't be playing for too long Irfan can be the viable left handed option and Umesh, Aaron, Awana, Shami , Ishant can then compete for a spot. Tendulkar and VVS should be rotated in test's and youngsters should be given a go to prepare for their retirements, Dhoni not good enough to hold a place in the test side as a batter and captain, Saha deserves the spot of wicketkeeper. Sreesanth, VRV, Tyagi, Suyal, Anwar Ahmed should be closely monitored among bowlers who can make the grade and groomed if fit, Pujara, Rahane, Vijay, Rohit SHOULD BE PLAYING MORE GAMES THIS YEAR.

Why play 5 bowlers when we don't even have 1 proper bowler? Selectors have taken a right step. We need to strengthen our batting. Even guys like Rohit and Kohli can roll their arm and give 50-60 in 10 overs.
Works in the sub-continent ONLY that was the point.

With Umesh, Aaron, Ishant India has three fast bowlers who are fit and can bowl at 150 k"s, what they lack is consistency and find what works for them, what it takes to get wickets with their bowling styles in test cricket, what they desperately need is a county season or two playing cricket day in and day out on different pitches and conditions, only then they will metamorphosize and get the bowling smarts and ability to bowl well with their natural gifts , right now they are not making much of it. Same thing could be applie to Tyagi, Gony, VRV, Suyal, A Ahmed, Nechim, Shami, a finishing school all our pacers need as they are not as ready to play test cricket compared to SA , Australians same way our spinners are ready owing to the conditions and their spinners take a long time to mature. Also looking at the professionalism and attitude of the bowlers plus being with international players and coaches could be a learning process in county circuit. So simple to see the Zaheer career graph , BCCI and players are not focusing on the obvious.
