This was when a 16 year old Tendulkar made his unofficial debut for India against Pakistan in the 1st ever T20!!! The official one-dayer had been abandoned because of bad light and a 20-over exhibition match organised instead. Pakistan put on 157 and India only got close thanks to an 18-ball 53 from a 16-year-old Sachin Tendulkar. One over from Abdul Qadir read: 6, 0, 4, 6 6 6. Sachin hit two sixes to leg spinner Mustaq Ahmed. The frustrated legendary spinner Abdul Qadir (The mentor of Mustaq Ahmed) challenged Sachin saying "Bachchon ko kyon mar rahe ho? Hamein maar ke dikhao (Why are you hitting kids? Try and hit me). Sachin was silent, since then we all have come to know that he lets his bat do the talking. Abdul Qadir had made a simple request and Sachin obliged, and how. Sachin hit 4 sixes in the over, making the spinner look the kid in the contest. The over read 6, 0, 4, 6, 6, 6 Here's Tendulkar and Srikkanth's take on the innings... Sachin Tendulkar When I came in to bat we needed 69 runs in five overs or so. I had a go at Mushtaq Ahmed who had taken two wickets and hit him for a couple of sixes. Qadir then came up to me said, "Bachchon ko kyon mar rahe ho? Hamein bhi maar dikhao" ("Why are you only hitting the kid? Hit me too.") Qadir was a great bowler and I was only playing my first series. I didn't say anything, but it fired me up. I took up the challenge and gave it a go. Ultimately we fell short only by four runs. Srikkanth This innings was played at a time when nobody knew about Sachin and what he was capable of, so it was totally unexpected. Watching him from the other end, I was astonished at the kind of shots he played and especially the way he took on Qadir. It is unfortunate that that match isn't an official ODI, for it was one of the best innings I have seen. Here are the links... He also said he did his best to get him out, but still got hit. I think he was being nice and made sure that he told us that he had and has no animosity towards Sachin or indians.

Don't think if it was 6,0,4,6,6,6. I think it was 6,6,6,4,2,3. What I am sure is that over had gone for 27 runs and last two balls were 2,3. Before that there were 3 sixes and one four. But I am not sure of the order. May be CT can help?

I watched it on tv at the time. Great hits by Sachin using his feet. We knew we had something special gracing the sport.

Isn't it funny how retarded even a video taken in late 80s look like?? I mean think of people betting on videos from 1920s when 1980 seems like this. Also watching this video one can hazard a guess that 10 years down the line people would be mocking Qadir for bowling 3 feet outside off stump and being carted for 6 over covers. Back to the innings, yes this was the innings that set Sachin into Indian mindset. Before this he was a budding talent, after this he was a man who had delivered against a top bowler in his own backyard.

Strange scorecard! How come Ankola and razdan were not given more overs when likes of Srikkanth and others who were taken apart bowled 3-4 overs each? Anyone remember the match and explain why this happened?
It was played as an exhibition match. In those days exhibition matches were played only semi seriously and the idea was to provide the crowd with some entertainment rather than winning or losing. I remember a couple of occasions in exhibition matches where the fielding side deliberately dropped a catch of some star batsman at the start of his innings who the crowd would have liked to see more of.

Don't even bring the quality of video in the discussion coz before you know it the discussion will lead to frame rates & fps :giggle: By the way do you remember the game? Any idea why Ankola and Razdan were not bowled when others were getting creamed. To me it looks like both Ankola (1/3 in 2 overs) and Razdan (0/11 in 2 overs) deserved more overs.

Because back then we had Dulha miyaan (Ajay Sharma ), another version of Ravindra Jadeja. Come what may the dude bowled his full overs and scored his 10 runs at the top.

I am surprised such an attitude carried over to an Ind-Pak game. I remember in 90s there was an exhibition game between Ind-Pak in UK and the match had to be abandoned when India was just 2 runs away from the win as Paki fans stormed the pitch. Also, wasn't this tour when Srikkanth was actually attacked on the field by a pakistani spectator? Hardly the backdrop where result didn't matter and looking at the Pak bowling scorecard their best bowlers bowled full quota. Looks to me they took the game far more seriously than we did.

Not really. During this tour the relations between Indian and Pakistan players were very good and also when Pakistan toured India in 1987. Yeah, Srikkanth was attacked by some spectator but overall the series was played in very good spirit among the players. In a competitive match there is no way Miandad would not have batted or Srikkanth not opened. Even Azhar did not bat from India. Kapil and Prabhakar, India's best bowlers of the time did not even play the match.
