MechEng Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I've read millions of reports about that pitch being a "demon" and etc. But I have never really watched that ball by ball, only few shots are there on youtube. If anyone has watched that innings in length, do you rate it as his best, or there are other innings better than that.
Raghav_12 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I don't think anybody in India would have done that. The only option in those days was DD (Doordarshan) and their coverage for that series was limited to a capsule of highlights for 30- 40 mins. However that innings could be somewhere in Roblinda's archives.
MechEng Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 I think Rob has already uploaded it's video. He has done the video, but hasn't really shown his innings properly (I'm not blaming Rob for this, he has a battle with internet Indian trolls).

Raghav_12 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Which channel was the 1992 WC telecasted? Whatecer I watched it was on DD only. Don't think if we had any other sports channel back then.

Ultimate_Game Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I doubt anyone in India woul dhave watched the whole innings. Till early to mid 90s DD only used to show home matches and some away odis live. Away Tests and a few away odis were not telecasted live in India. IIRC things changed starting mid 90s with the advent of cable TV when Star Sports and ESPN started telecasting live cricket.

After Kohli's innings in Perth, Manjeraker tweeted that Perth pitch in 1992 only had pace and bounce but not lateral movement, but this pitch had all the three ingredients. That is the only thing I know and dont know how true that was. I guess Manju too played in that test.

StatsRock Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I dont know if the current generation likes a format other than video but I've really enjoyed the IRC commentary of the Perth Test which is now on CricInfo. http://static.espncricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/1991-92/IND_IN_AUS/IND_AUS_T5_01-05FEB1992_MR

Vijay.Sharma Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Yeah, even I did not watch the innings live but there was some coverage on some radio channel which my dad tuned intp early in the morning...so in passing I heard a bit of it. I was in my 10th then and wasn't so greatly versed with the nittygritties of the game or the idea of "pressure", etc even though I could understand the difference between a 50 on a minefield and a 100 on a flat track. IIRC, I made it a point to watch the highlights that nght. On a side note, it was during that 91-92 series that Moods condoms ads used to be aired...lol. But DD showed the ODI games live. I remember how my dad was all praise for the way the bugger batted and my dad explaining why it was a great innings (not that I wasn't already able to distinguish between his 114 and his 148). That same year when Kapil scored 129 against the Saffers I remembered Sachin's 114
Tapioca Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Whatecer I watched it was on DD only. Don't think if we had any other sports channel back then. WC 1992 was on Prime Sports. DD showed only some 50% of the matches
Raghav_12 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 WC 1992 was on Prime Sports. DD showed only some 50% of the matches Yeah.. DD didn't show all the matches but they did all of India matches. What was prime sports? I don't recall of such channel. I think star sports and ESPN were the first ones to be dedicated sporta channel in India.

Prime Sports became Star Sports in 1996. ESPN came in mid-1995.
