sriram i was tryin to reason out .. but then i realised if a person who basically scores only thu boundaries have a strike rate hoverin arnd 60-70s ... imagine how many dot balls he wud have made.. this is wat dial's point too... these dot balls surely put pressure on his partners.. he mit score occasional boundaries but tht doesnt really help considerin the amount of dot ballls he had made..
But Zubin , you are missing the MOST BASIC point here. In 9 off the eleven matches that Ganguly has scored at less than 80 SR , we have won.

Since my comeback into the Indian team ' date=' I have played 20 matches and only three of them have been against Minnow teams and in two of them , i top scored for my team. Sure i suck against Minnows.[/quote'] Do you want stats for 20 games then.. Well... 25 isn;'t gonna make whole lot of difference... will it.??

Dial , its not about the number , its about Ganguly performance since his comeback. We all know what a pathetic ODI player Dravid in his first 50 one dayers . His overall career still do reflect some of that. But off late , he has been India's second best One day batsman , after Yuvraj. His overall one day stats in no way reflect what good a one day player he is now. That is my point , we need numbers from relevant timelines. Not some arbitary periods.

" West Indies jan 2007 Match 1 - India 338/3 batting first Ganguly - 98(110) - SR - 89 Match 2 - India 189 all out batting first Ganguly - 13( 25) , SR - 52 Match 3 - India 341/5 batting first Ganguly - 68(82) , SR - 83 Sri Lanka in India, Feb 2007 Match 1 - India 252 , batting second, fell short of target by 4 runs , after being comfortably placed at 154/3 in 27 overs Ganguly - 62(79) , SR - 79 Match 2 - India chase down target of 230 in 46 overs Ganguly - 46(76) , SR - 66 Match 3 - India chase down target of 260 Ganguly - 58(74) , SR - 78" Oh yes i am !
Minnow specialist doesn't mean I am not supposed to score against other teams with depleted bowling attacks and/or patta tracks. It just means I am supposed to do well against minnows as I did in 2003 world cup.

well dravid has made a complete turn arnd... but ganguly isnt... hes still smart enuf to make other believe tht hes scoring and winning the matches for india when its not the case actually

so wat does tht mean,, others r playing extremely well to cover up his arse... which means he doesnt actuallly contribute to the winning..
And you conveniently keep forgetting the fact the Ganguly has top scored for India in ODIs since his comeback. And also - Batting in cricket is about partnerships and not about what an individual player scores at which rate. What would you do , if i prove to you that , since Ganguly's comeback India have averaged more runs in batting in ODIs , than in their previous 15 games ?

sriram' date=' if ganguly has been doing so well, why do you want him to vacate the opening spot?[/quote'] Nope. I actually said i didnt want Ganguly and Sachin to open. If that means Sachin dropping to the middle order , so be it. These two at the top are a total disaster for us wrt power play scoring. This is how i want our line-up to look Sachin/Ganguly Uthappa/Sehwag Ganguly/Sachin Dravid Yuvraj Karthik Dhoni Pathan Zaheer Munaf/RPS/Aggy Powar/Chawla

so ur saying tht partnership is important and not the strike rate... what if both the players score 150 runs in partnership at a strike rate of 30.. is tht valuable for u? his arse is mostly coveredup by someone else who takes risks n ups the ante where this laggard happily wastes balls and trundle 30 n 40s and increase his avg... and when others dint score, did he try to do smthing like score briskly so we dont endup with low score.. thts not the case.. when others fail.. he happily scores a 50 for 120 balls and makes sure tht he made others believe tht hes scoring consistently.... perfect ex is worldcup match against Banglas.. if he had rotated the strike, earlier, we wudnt have lost 5 wkts in a hurry...( those were cuz when players tried to take risks n score some quick runs... unfortunately they all fell)

again wrong.. u shudnt compare ganguly with sachin.. as sachin is way ahead of ganguly... and get an attacking player with sachin in opening.. u will see how sachin rotates the strike and gives strike to the attacking player... sachin shud open.. cuz hes best there.

But you have to understand that it is Ganguly's solid presence at the other end that helps the other batsman to score so freely. Wait up , i am trying to fish out more stats to throw more relevant info in this debate. Lets see what comes out of it.

If Ganguly cannot open , then there is no use for him in the team.
