jairamesh Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 I think that you guys are overestimating this missle defense system's capabilities. Nothing can stop ICBM's. Second of all why do India even need this? Europe don't bother with a missile defense system because nobody in hell is stupid to try and lay a nut into a European power. Who is going to try and fire missiles at India?! That's not how European leaders see it. Like MTC said the Europeans' backs are covered by American Patriot missiles which are scattered around Europe, plus they installed on US Frigates which are floating around the Mediterranean 24/7. On top of that all the NATO countries have been provided with Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System to counter short to medium rage missiles. Also let's not forget Europe has a very powerful continuous at sea nuclear deterrent provided by British and French nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines.
jairamesh Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Defence shield has it's limitations as hamas showed this week with there home made bottle rockets breaking the iron dome defence system. It's a tough one. It's interception rate will come down as number of rockets increase. Since it's deployment, less than a year ago (before the current Gaza invasion), the Iron Dome has intercepted over 200 rockets launched from Gaza with 90% success rate. This success rate has come down to 85% over the last few weeks due to increase in launches. Though Israel is already installing more batteries to cover the whole country and mitigate for higher frequency of launches. Obviously all with US money.
jairamesh Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Even if india shoots a pakitani nuke out the sky it's still gonna drop somewhere in india or pakistan and kill millions of people' date=' or am I wrong?[/quote'] It's likely, but the primary aim is protect strategically placed major cities, in this case Delhi and Mumbai. Not even the US have their entire country covered. Russia only has a missile defence system in place for Moscow.
jairamesh Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 India defense program now is more looking at china than pakistan and for that we need to develop more. True, but we can't compete with China in terms of numbers (i.e Frigates, Destroyers, Air Force etc.) so better for India to focus on their "Defence" systems; missile defence systems, nuclear deterrent, Aircraft Carriers, better intel, etc.
CG Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 True' date=' but we can't compete with China in terms of numbers (i.e Frigates, Destroyers, Air Force etc.) so better for India to focus on their "Defence" systems; missile defence systems, nuclear deterrent, Aircraft Carriers, better intel, etc.[/quote'] Well its not about numbers our naval and air capability is not that much behind china .We are developing 5th generation fighter with russia and by 2020 we would have 2 or 3 aircraft carriers.
DomainK Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Building defensive weapons is better than building attack ones' date=' no?[/quote'] Won't you like to have both Sehwag and Dravid in your team?
CSK Fan Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Won't you like to have both Sehwag and Dravid in your team? Not when Sehwag's sixes are going to kill innocent children on the other side. Then I would prefer to have a better defense
indiaregulator Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 In terms of technology of Militaries: 1) Nato 2) Russia 3) Israel 4) China 5) India
jairamesh Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 In terms of technology of Militaries: 1) Nato 2) Russia 3) Israel 4) China 5) India Both have a long way to go, especially India. The likes of South Korea, Australia, and even Saudi Arabia have better equipment than India thanks to military hardware supplied by US and EU. And soon Japan will be in that list as they move away from their pacifist policy with blessings from US.
jairamesh Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Right now the Monty missiles are the biggest threat to Indian security.
panther Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Iran is pretty good they sent there own satellite into space which is quite an achievement given the financial sanctions and the war they had in the 80s. If iran can send a satellite into space than they can get nukes. just another iraq like lie made up by the media to invade iran.
vayuu1 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Multiple missile attacks ~ MIRV capable ? MIRV = multiple independent re entry vehicle ,yes drdo is working on it

China is behind India in military technology.Their policy is to have less capable but larger numbers of equipment.80% of Indian equipment is from NATO Russia and Israel and in larger nos than Saudi or Korea or Australia.India has been the 4th strongest armed force for more than 3 decades now.Behind USA Russia and slightly behind China. Remember Chinese war machines are un proven in combat. Sent from my GT-I9103 using Tapatalk 2
Needforspeed Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 The Missile system has a unique name-Ashwin Ballistic Missile Interceptor I hope they perform better than Ashwin did in the Mumbai Test.
