jairamesh Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 India's first missile defence system will be deployed in 2014, providing detection, tracking, interception and destruction of long range missiles. India becomes only the fourth country after US, Russia, and Israel to develop and deploy a ballistic missile defense system. I believe DRDO's next aim is to develop and deploy a short to medium range missile defence similar to Isreal's Iron Dome to counter the possibility of "home made" rockets luanched from Pakistan. India proves capability of missile defence system http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/interceptor-missile-scores-a-direct-again/article4126430.ece India on Friday demonstrated its capability to intercept multiple missile attacks when an a real interceptor destroyed an incoming target missile in endo-atmosphere at a height of 15 km over the Bay of Bengal and another simulated 'hostile' missile was killed in exo-atmosphere at 120 km almost simultaneously. In less than five minutes of the launch of the real attacker missile, a modifiied Prithvi from Chandipur, the intercepetor, Advanced Air Defence (AAD), was fired from the Wheeler Island. Travelling at a supersonic speed of 4.5 Mach, the interceptor equipped with a unique directional warhead , homed on to the attacker missile and destroyed in a "hit-to-kill" mode at an altitude of 14.7 km in endo-atmosphere at 12.52 pm.The attacker Prihvi missile had a range of 600 km to 1,000 km.
CSK Fan Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Getting ready for war! Building defensive weapons is better than building attack ones, no?
panther Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Building defensive weapons is better than building attack ones' date=' no?[/quote'] makes no difference, planning ahead.
jairamesh Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Getting ready for war! Apparently with one side accelerating it's nuclear warheads stockpile, I can only applaud the Indian Defence and DRDO's concerns and for implementing a Ballistic Defence System. Also this only lessens the value of ones nuclear armed missiles. Better safe then sorry :idunno:

indiaregulator Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 I think that you guys are overestimating this missle defense system's capabilities. Nothing can stop ICBM's. Second of all why do India even need this? Europe don't bother with a missile defense system because nobody in hell is stupid to try and lay a nut into a European power. Who is going to try and fire missiles at India?!

Second of all why do India even need this? Europe don't bother with a missile defense system because nobody in hell is stupid to try and lay a nut into a European power. Who is going to try and fire missiles at India?! Some Jihadi nut who get a hold of small rockets? BTW, arent the Patriot misslies US has capable of taking down ICBMs? Also India at least claim to have successfully tested its anti-ballistic missile tech http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missile_defense_systems_of_various_nations Introduced in light of the ballistic missile threat from Pakistan,[13] it is a double-tiered system consisting of two interceptor missiles, namely the Prithvi Air Defence (PAD) missile for high altitude interception, and the Advanced Air Defence (AAD) Missile for lower altitude interception. The two-tiered shield should be able to intercept any incoming missile launched 5,000 kilometers away.[14] PAD was tested in November 2006, followed by AAD in December 2007. With the test of the PAD missile, India became the fourth country to have successfully developed an Anti-ballistic missile system, after United States, Russia and Israel.[15] On 6 March 2009, India again successfully tested its missile defense shield, during which an incoming "enemy" missile was intercepted at an altitude of 75 km.[16] On 6 May 2012, it was announced that Phase-I is complete and can be deployed to protect two Indian cities at a short notice.[17][18] New Delhi, the national capital, and Mumbai, have been selected for the ballistic missile defence shield.[19] After successful implementation in Delhi and Mumbai, the system will be used to cover other major cities in the country.[20] This shield can destroy incoming ballistic missiles launched from as far as 2,500 km away. When the Phase II is completed and PDV is developed, the two anti-ballistic missiles can intercept targets up to 5,000 km both at exo and endo-atmospheric (inside the atmosphere) regions. The missiles will work in tandem to ensure a hit probability of 99.8 per cent.[21][
panther Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Even if india shoots a pakitani nuke out the sky it's still gonna drop somewhere in india or pakistan and kill millions of people, or am I wrong?
surajmal Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 There is very little reaction time with regards to a Pakistan launched Ballistic missile. Goal should be boost phase interception, which pretty much needs hypersonic missiles (something like a brahmos 2 - that is in the pipeline) or lasers (but even USA is having trouble developing such a weapon having already spend hundreds of millions if not billions). Frankly, in the current setup the best option is round the clock satellite (they'll need better satellites - Israeli expertise should come in handy) surveillance of every inch of pakistan (so authorities can instantly inform the relevant parties about Pak's misadventures i.e. missile launches) coupled with a Missile interception command of the airforce that is equipped with brahmos armed SU-30s that is ready to takeoff at a minute's notice and intercept the missile as soon as it is launched. I would also have several dozen batteries of Brahmos 2 missiles located right at the border (Rajasthan and Punjab) so that entire pakistan is within reach (if the missile launch happens from Afghan-Pak Border) and can take out the entire launch site within a couple of minutes. This is a pretty agressive posture vis-a-vis Pakistan but that is what is needed. Play soft and you risk millions of lives. Population of madmen is only increasing in Pakistan (particularly in Pak Army) so war is inevitable.
surajmal Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Even if india shoots a pakitani nuke out the sky it's still gonna drop somewhere in india or pakistan and kill millions of people' date=' or am I wrong?[/quote'] I think Nukes are programmed to detonate only at the target (in case of misfires or missile failures altogether). Atleast that is how rest of the world does it. However, Pakistan is special case...
panther Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Defence shield has it's limitations as hamas showed this week with there home made bottle rockets breaking the iron dome defence system.
surajmal Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Defence shield has it's limitations as hamas showed this week with there home made bottle rockets breaking the iron dome defence system. That is why I subscribe to the theory of Good offense is the best defense. There are plenty of military men in India that think along those lines. Unfortunately, the actual decision makers don't. So Pakistan will almost surely get a couple of shots off- Bombay and Delhi will be dead and buried. But after that Pakistan ka allah malik hai.
CG Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 India defense program now is more looking at china than pakistan and for that we need to develop more.
