What India here needs is not additional punishment. The current punishment itself is not weak + is good enough to scare any criminals thoughts. But the issue that the criminals simply believe 1) they won't get caught 2) Even when caught, they can win the case in court through loopholes/corruption/bribes. These 2 are more important issue. There needs to be a special team on such cases and complete results and fair trial in quick time. Although, there is always one implication. There can and has been some utter misuse of this with "fake" rape claims.

On the way to hospital, the woman’s friend kept saying he had an injury on his head and that she was badly injured. “We are friends, we were headed to Dwarka Sector 1 from Munirka. A bus came at 9 pm. There were eight to ten passengers on board the bus. They said they were headed to Bahadurgarh, that they would drop us off at the Dwarka Sector 1 bus stand. At the next stop, three to four passengers got off the bus. The remaining five to six men began assaulting us,” the friend told police. “I was attacked with an iron rod on the head while my friend was raped by the men. She was bleeding. The men were drunk... They took our mobile phones, my ring, watch, ATM card, credit card and Rs 1,000. Her photo ID, a purse with Rs 500 and mobile phone were taken away. Add to that those newly rich (selling land obviously) in their white SUVs with cheesy stickers glorifying their respective communities... no wonder they dont get laid ! These criminals will have a very tough time in the jail. Jail inmates don't take kindly to such cowardly crimes. A man who rapes women or beats them up is not only looked down upon as a coward, but they just hate such people.

I dont know why Delhi cops and CM are feigning innocence. FFS, the warning signs have been there all along. 700 odd cases of rape (mind you these are just the ones reported to police) in the national capital which has the highest concentration of security forces is pathetic. What is outrageous is that it takes something so bad to happen for these guys to wake up.
