These idiots went there with their cameras and took pictures of themselves and loaded it in facebook and they were updating it every 5 mins. Also their eagerness to speak to media was nothing but just a big joke. Also the college boys went there to have some good time with girls, its fun for most of them. Only few people went there with real motivation of protesting without any publicity.

They certainly dont deify him like we have done with Gandhi. Dont get me wrong, I am not in favor of tarring the entire life of individuals based on a single quote or action. But an objective analysis is necessary.

They are respected (or deified) for their vast contribution to their nations. Gandhi's extreme idealism is well known and also the fact that Nehru/Patel generally tended to ignore his advice (the parts which were considered impractical ) and went with more pragmatic alternatives. Very few Americans would actually know that Lincoln held views that would be considered extremely racist in modern times. Even if they did, I doubt any american would use Lincoln's comments to justify/ play down bigotry by someone like Rick Perry/Bachmann

On the other hand the concept of non-violent resistance has simply been accepted as the gospel truth. The hypocrisy is evident in that the various aberrations emanating from this concept are conveniently abandoned (after all India does have a large army), but the concept itself is not questioned and the reason is because its biggest proponent, namely Gandhi, has been deified beyond criticism. Anyway, I was not defending or justifying anyone, suggesting non-violence for a rape victim is downright demented, immoral and inhuman.
1983-2011 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Lawyers protest against counsel taking up case for accused A Delhi court hearing the December 16 gangrape-cum-murder case on Monday witnessed heated arguments between a lawyer, who sought to defend the accused, and other advocates, who vehemently objected to it even as the accused could not be produced in the overcrowded courtroom. It is for the first time that a lawyer came forward to defend the five accused amid resolutions of various advocate bodies in the city not to represent them. Advocate Mohan Lal Sharma appeared in the court and told metropolitan magistrate Namrita Aggarwal that he had received calls from relatives of some of the accused to defend them. He told the court that he was unable to take signatures of the accused in vakalatnama (a person's authority letter to an advocate to represent him in court) as he could not go to Tihar Jail and sought the magistrate's permission to take the the same in the court itself. The metropolitan magistrate, however, refused him the permission and asked him to go to Tihar Jail for the purpose. Even as the court rejected Sharma's plea, two more lawyers offered their services as amicus curiae to the court. However,, the five accused - Ram Singh, Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Akshay Thakur, could not be produced in the overcrowded courtroom, jam-packed with media persons, lawyers and police personnel, due to paucity of space. The magistrate thereafter asked the people present in the court to make space for the accused to enter it, but despite some space having been made for them, the police refused to bring in the five saying they would bring them only after the court is completely cleared. The accused are likely to be produced in-chamber now. The accused were to be produced in court in response to the production warrants issued against them for on Monday. The court had issued the production warrants after taking cognisance of the charge sheet filed against them by the police. this wont ****ing help, it will just slow down court proceedings
