CG Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Awana did not really smile, he was really embarrassed and the smile was more of a 'Oh my god, what have I done' kind of a reaction. Psychologically, a 'smile' is often regarded as a 'fear' reaction; when scared or 'feeling insecure' people often smile. Awana's smile was exactly that. He was nervous and fidgety all along, and really wanted to do well in the field (as opposed to - he did not care about missing a chance). But his fielding technique overall needs to be worked on, he doesn't cover the ball well, does not seem to have a safe pair of hands and needs to return the ball more accurately. Also, he really got heckled by the crowd which weighed heavily on his mind. Hope he gets a few more games and does better. May be you are right it did seem akward unlike shewags:haha:.But really if i dropped a catch i could not have been able to laugh.
King Tendulkar Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 May be you are right it did seem akward unlike shewags:haha:.But really if i dropped a catch i could not have been able to laugh. You could see he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him, he cared too much. His smile was a panic reaction. Sehwag on the other hand is experienced pro. His was a genuine piss take. He tries to hard to present this happy go lucky image, who is casual. This casualness was endearing when piling on the runs, it was seen as his strength and he was loved for it. Now team is losing and he is not scoring runs it is viewed differently. With sehwag the smile I can live with, its the fact he is not concentrating when fleding and so drops chances due to this

Sehwag usually laughs in a 'Oh paaji, aur ek catch chhoot gaya mujhse ... he he he' mode. Awana's smile was closer to tears ... I'm guessing that is his natural panic reaction when he goofs up in the field.

Duncan motu should organize a few team bonding sessions at least to make these guys fit in the squad. Raina went to him from long on after he dropped the catch, that was really nice. I like Raina's attitude on the filed.

I like Raina's attitude on the filed. They usually bond by cooking. Raina cooks and uses other people to help him (Dinda also cooks). I guess Awana is not very good at cooking. :dontknow: Raina possibly thinks that he is the next T20 captain and tries of comfort/encourage newbies as much as possible.
saneindian Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Naah Awana was joking with Yuvraj and having a good laugh, so don't think he is really out of place. Plus He has played lot of cricket with Gambhir and Kohli. Will not be a bad idea to let Gambhir be stationed at mid off when Awana is bowling and continuously talk to him, can be an immense morale booster for the youngster.

From what I have seen, Awana bonds well with Kohli (since both were juniors in the Delhi side together). Keep Kohli at mid-off and let them share MC-BC jokes. :dontknow:
