People living near LoC demand grant for constructing bunkers

People living in areas close toLine of Control (LoC) in Kashmir are demanding special grant for construction of bunkers to escape shelling as India and Pakistan have resumed hostilities by heavy firing at each others' position. Residents of villages close to the LoC in Uri sector of north Kashmir Baramulla district claim that the earthquake of 2005, which had flattened wide parts of Kashmir on either side of the ceasefire line, had destroyed their bunkers. "We did not reconstruct those bunkers as we did not feel the need. The ceasefire between India and Pakistan along the LoC had held good for two years," Mohammad Aslam, a resident of Churunda village in Uri, said. Churunda has been the worst affected areas in recent time as three civilians were killed in Pakistani shelling in October last year. The village was again the target on January 6 but the cross LoC shelling resulted in damage to a residential house. India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir in November 2003. Barring minor aberrations, the ceasefire had been successful, providing major relief to the residents of borders areas in the state who were living in constant fear. However, the recent incidents of shelling along the LoC and transgression of the ceasefire line by Pakistani troops in Mendhar area of Poonch district is threatening the truce pact. Two Indian soldiers were killed in Mendhar incident while Pakistan has claimed that two of its soldiers died in shelling by Indian army since January 6. A delegation of villagers living close to LoC said that government should provide them special grant for reconstructing the bunkers in case the hostilities continue. "The government should either construct or provide us money to construct these bunkers. If they fail to do so, we might have to migrate from the area," Bashir Ahmad, who was heading the delegation, said. He said the areas of Uri likely to be affected by cross-LoC shelling include Hathlanga, Churunda, Tilwari, Silikote and Sura, where over 1,000 families reside. District Development Commissioner Baramulla Khwaja Ghulam Ahmad said the authorities have not received any representation for construction of bunkers so far. "However, we will forward a proposal to Government if any such application is received," Ahmad said. He said all the families living along the LoC in Uri were given Rs. 15,000 in mid-1990s for construction of the underground bunkers. "These bunkers do not get affected by earthquake," he added.

LoC row: India, Pakistan to hold flag meeting tomorrow

India and Pakistan will hold a flag meeting of Brigade Commanders in Poonch sector on Monday to de-escalate tension along the Line of Control even as the two sides traded fire overnight after a bid by infiltrators to sneak in was foiled. At the flag meeting, the Indian side is expected to strongly protest the Pakistani intrusion and the beheading of a soldier and demand the return of the severed head believed to have been carried by Pakistani army regulars as a trophy after the killing of two soldiers on January eight. "Brigade Commanders' flag meeting is being held tomorrow at Chakan-Da-Bagh LoC point in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir at noon," Public Relation Officer (PRO), Defence, Col RK Palta told PTI. Pakistan agreed for the flag meeting in a communication through a hotline in the sector, he said, adding, "We had sought the flag meeting of the brigade commanders of the two sides." The Indian Army had sent a hotline message to the Pakistan Army on January 11 and asked for a flag meeting to discuss the issues of brutal killing of two jawans by Pakistani troops, reportedly belonging to 29 Baloch Regiment, and increasing incidents of firing and ceasefire violations in the Poonch sector. Pakistan's High Commissioner Salman Bashir has already been summoned in Delhi by Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai who lodged a strong protest over Pakistani Army action in which the two soldiers were killed and their bodies were subjected to "barbaric and inhuman mutilation". Confidence Building Measures (CMBs) of cross-LoC trade and travel are also expected to come up for discussion during the flag meeting. Pakistan has suspended cross-LoC trade and travel at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch sector since Thursday and Friday respectively. The overnight exchange of fire along the LoC in Krishnagati in Poonch sector involved small arms and mortars and continued intermittently till 0200 hours on Sunday. "Movement of 6 to 7 persons was detected close to LoC opposite Krishnagati sub-sector in Poonch sector around 2145 hours yesterday," Col Palta said. Troops, guarding the borderline with Pakistan, opened fire on them, he said, adding after that heavy fire was exchanged between two sides. After about half-an-hour of heavy exchanges, the group of "suspected persons" disappeared from the scene, Palta said maintaining that the exchange of fire reduced thereafter but it went on till early this morning. Sources said it is suspected that either a group of militants or a Border Action Team (BAT) of Pakistan could have been undertaking movement close to LoC opposite Krishnagati sub-sector. The fresh exchange of fire came after a lull of 48 hours. Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire by firing mortars on Indian posts along the LoC in Krishnagati sector on Thursday. The Indian side had effectively retaliated, the spokesman said. The January eight killing of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops after intruding into Indian territory was viewed by India as a "highly provocative" attack. Monday's Brigage Commander-level flag meeting is the second one in the last six months between the two sides. A Brigade Commanders' meeting was held at Chakan-Da-Bagh LoC point on June 23 following the killing of two Indian soldiers and injuries to four other jawans in ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops, besides closure of the cross-LoC trade and travel via Chakan-Da-Bagh. The two jawans were killed and the four others were injured in the firing by Pakistan troops between June 11 to June 16 in the Poonch sector. A commander-level flag meeting is held to sort out the differences between the two sides. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed 71 incidents of cross-border firing and ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border in which seven persons, including four security personnel were killed and 15 others were injured last year. There were 51 cases of cross-border firing and ceasefire violations in 2011 as compared to 44 cases registered in 2010 and 28 in 2009.

sorry sarkar bro but modi cant do shyt about ur pak problem becoz pak have nukes ' date=' so deal with it . :king:[/quote'] Lol..so what? Almost every countries have nuke & every countries have utilities to prevent the nuke if possible. Just like one of the military guy asked your so called manhoos defense analyst Zaid Ahmed when he made a similar staement. "Hamare paas nuke heh" and the reply was "kya woh chalega?" No one's asking for a war or if there is one, you guys are surely on the backfoot. You don't have financial power to hold on for 1 long day -i.e. according to a retired navy officer. You're navy used to be one of the best as now its way below par, while we 've the 3rd or 4th strongest navy in the world. Not bragging here but "NUKE" isn't what you see in an Arnold movie. What I mean it's not the decision maker of a war. Nuclear war is a very strong word in this age.

well i m not war analyst or defence strategic like most of other guys here but common sense is that u cant handle full fledge nuke war with other nuclear capable country. the reason to get nuke by pak army is to avoid full fledge war with india. becoz india is big country, so they had upper hand in conventional war before. so pak army defused india's conventional war strength . according to BBC report pak have 100 + nuke than india . also pak have middle and short range nuclear capable missiles which can hardly take 3 to 4 mins to hit any indian city. so nukes are very very ugly thing . its not a toy thing . just admit it that no country in this world can afford any nuke war . :hatsoff:
