Yes, Indians migrate legally.Whats your point?

Yes' date=' Indians migrate legally.Whats your point?[/quote'] Legal or illegal is determined by the system and the state. They can be legal if India makes a more friendly policy. That is the point....

So what sort of expertise do you think we need from BD in order to encourage legal immigration ?

Further Illegal immigration should be prevented. The government on its part should stop blaming all of its problems on immigration and start regularizing existing immigrants.

Huh ? Why should India make a friendly imigration policy for those who have imigrated illegally anyway ? It will create all sorts of problems. 1) Religious conflicts between Hindu's and Muslims as demographics of area changes. 2) Land problem, where they will be illegaly occupied by immigrants. These 2 above caused riots in Assam recently. 3) Population problem - We are a overpopulated country as it is, and growing with large number of poor. 4) Law and Order problem - When these people who come across don't get jobs, they can resort to crimes in India and then just go back like happens with Nepal. 5) Employment and Poverty - We are struggling to generate employment and remove poverty as it is. 6) Militant movements - Like Naxal movements and radical thinking will be promoted when outsiders are allowed to take over land/resources etc.. 7) If you make them legal once, more will be encouraged from all countries surrounding us. 8) Whole question of nationalism comes into question too, where people will be Bangladeshi's staying in India and a question with respect to voting and votebanks. Probably missing a few points like Smuggling and illegal trade too, but it's not as simple as you make it sound. And we have friendly legal imigration policies anyway. See Sonia Maino Gandhi from Italy. :giggle:

It's not so simple though. Their are huge problems as i said in post above in doing that. Plus the political cost too.

The problems with migration is the same everywhere in the world and not exclusive to Bangladeshis who are interested to migrate to India. The only one which seems exclusive to bangladesh is insurgency , But I disagree because bangladesh is not an extremist hot bed and there has been no incidents for the past 6 years in bangladesh soil to suggest otherwise. There is however always a chance but proper screening would eliminate that too..

Stop being so vague. This thread is specific to India - BD and illegal migration. Nobody is stopping BD citizens from entering legally, but illegal migration in the order of millions is a huge problem for a country that has its own share of poverty and unemployment.

Legal migration (getting a permanent status) is very difficult in India. Hence the illegal migration. I am not being vague, just saying that every other problem you associated with bangladeshis exclusively is infact an universal problem with migration itself. Millions of Indians do migrate west for the exact reason Bangladeshis migrate to India. However, your country and your rules... I can see why you dislike migration of bangladesh but you yourself would not mind migrating to west for the exact same reason. Only request is that dont try to take a moral high ground... PS: Please note that we do appreciate and forever will for the role india played in our liberation and allowing the influx of refugees to its territory. Thank you. We shall never forget that amazing gesture of good will and freindship.

Legal immigration is equally difficult to the US or UK or Canada if you are illiterate/semi-literate and unqualified as the vast majority of Bangladeshi immigrants are in India. Places like US need skilled Indian workers for the good of their economy. Some 10th fail guy in Jaunpur is not going to get a H1-B, though there have been sporadic cases where people have defrauded the system but by and large the half million or so immigrants from India to the US over the past couple of decades have made meaningful contributions to the growth of the US economy. Moreover, this is not a "universal" problem with Indian immigrants in general. In the US, they are the best performing minority group over various parameters. Their involvement in crime is minimal, their education levels are one of the highest, their per capita income and contribution to taxes is one of the highest etc. etc. If you really want to draw a parallel then illegal Mexicans in the US are more equivalent to Bangladeshis in India.

I have always wondered how different things would have been had Mexico not been largely Catholic Christian? US is most definitely Secular and very respectful to every religion. But yes it does help if your religious mix is overwhelming Christian and the illegal migrants are of the same religious block. At the very least it makes the modern day terrorism redudant. In fact there are strong view points that the Mexican drug cartels ensure Middle East terrorist dont backdoor into US from that side. It is different in BD. Yes India is Secular and every citizen has equal rights but if illegal migration can, and does as in Assam, alter the local demography that is dangerous game at play then.

My answer was also very simple, how does a farmer end up on the other end of the border ? How do you differentiate between a farmer and a smuggler? How do you stop someone without fatally injuring the person if you only have lethal guns in your armory (for the troops)...? Should you let innocents freely cross the border just because they are not smuggling?
is this a joke? policemen cant kill criminals even if they are running away. they have to give an warning first to stop then they can shoot at legs. same goes for border guards. u cant just shoot someone down until u r attacked. nd there is a different between smugglers and traders. why dont they stop selling those cattles or just legalize it and earn some god damn money rather than killing bangladeshi traders. they dont effing eat beef anyway. ps. my point was if beheading should not be done by a professional army ( recent loc incident) then killing unarmed people even if they are smugglers as u say should not be done by a professional army let alone killing a 13 years old girl and treat her corp with disrespect.

The maid who works at my home in Noida were illegal migrants from Bangladesh and sneaked across the border in the 80s. Though their economic condition is still below par, their community (30 odd families) has assimilated well and found employment. Now they are regularized and have voter id and other documents. The government should make semi skilled migration legal and easier. despite our huge population, labor is still a big issue in India, especially in agriculture.
