BCCI says no to Sachin Tendulkar's request

Bangalore, Jan 12: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rejected Sachin Tendulkar's request of moving Mumbai's Ranji Trophy semi-final game from New Delhi to Mumbai, a newspaper report claimed on Saturday. Tendulkar, who turned up for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Baroda and scored a hundred at Wankhede Stadium, wanted the semi-final against Services to be held in Mumbai. However, BCCI has turned down that request for venue change. According to Ranji Trophy format, matches are played on home and away basis. Hence, it is Services' turn to host Mumbai on their home turf this time. This year's Ranji Trophy semi-final between Mumbai and Services will be held at Palam cricket ground in New Delhi from January 16 to 20. "The Times of India" newspaper quoted BCCI sources saying that the Indian cricket board had "politely" rejected Tendulkar's request saying they would have to abide by the rule book. Last time when Mumbai and Services met, it was the former which hosted the Ranji Trophy game in Mumbai in 1964-65 season. It was also a semi-final game. Because Palam is Services' home ground. Kotla is Delhi's home ground. In any case, Palam is a much better place to play cricket with a better pitch and better surroundings. Kotla is a pathetic place to watch cricket unless you like sitting on seats with loads of pigeon droppings.

Yeah, missed that part of the article. Thought it was neutral venues. And Kotla is much better right now after the reconstruction. Earlier it was pathetic. Does Palam even have seats ? Have only gone there once and they had those staired stands and those too just small on a few sides like a college ground in DU.

Sachin Tendulkar wanted Ranji semis shifted to Mumbai

NEW DELHI: Hours before the BCCI took the decision to stage the Ranji Trophy semifinal match between Mumbai and Services at the Palam cricket ground in the Capital from January 16 to 21, Sachin Tendulkar had requested the board to shift the venue to Mumbai. However, sources close to the development told TOI that BCCI 'politely' rejected Tendulkar's request by saying that the rule book doesn't permit it to do so. Tendulkar is currently playing for Mumbai and featured in the quarterfinal against Baroda which ended on Thursday. Ranji games are being played on home-and-away basis which gives the right of hosting the semifinal to Services since the last time the two teams clashed, in 1964-65, Mumbai hosted the game at the Brabourne stadium. That too was a semifinal. Meanwhile, the BCCI is mulling staging knock-out matches at neutral venues from the next season.

I saw a West Indies vs Holland WC match at Kotla in early 2011 and the stadium looked gorgeous. Is the Palam pitch generally a seamer-friendly pitch?
