Crookbond Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Well, in the case of Greg Chappell, at least he was trying to make changes for the betterment of the team by getting rid of a non-performing captain. Fletcher, on the other hand, is just dancing to the tunes of Dhoni and seemingly is unable to make any changes. I don't believe Fletcher can bring about any positive changes. In fact, he got a great team - a team that won the World Cup, had won the World T20 4 years before that and also had been recognized as a force on away tours and he turned it into an ordinary team that lost all its credibility built over the years on away tours. :WTF: Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag, Gambhir, Harbhajan (ODIs), Yuvraj (Tests), Raina (Tests), Tendulkar (ODIs) - what change are you talking about? :dontknow:
King Tendulkar Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Now, I agree the actions the Aus team management took were really stupid, but at least they are making efforts to tell the team that a performance like that is unacceptable. What did the great Indian team management do while they were losing 8 Tests in a row away from home and then also losing a home series?? They didn't even drop a single non-performing batsman when the team was losing all those matches away from home. They had batsmen in reserve (Rahane, Rohit in Aus) that were only used for serving drinks. This, despite the success of Kohli. It was all the more reason to try new batsmen. This attitude of giving permanent spots to senior batsmen has cost us dearly and will continue to cost us! agree

How can a single person turn a side from great to ordinary when he aint even in the playing eleven?? Don't you think its your bias against him that makes you say so. Yes, he may not have started in the right direction with the Indian team but now he has had some time with the boys and would have already established a good enough rapport with all of them. This is the time when he can really flourish as a coach with most of the established players in the team gone and new lads present. Keep your judgement on hold till end of next year since if he is just dancing to Dhoni's tune, it should be Dhoni who turned the great squad into ordinary but saying Fletcher is responsible is stupid.

Its not as if india are playing with the same team as the 8-0 loss.
Texan Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 How can a single person turn a side from great to ordinary when he aint even in the playing eleven?? He's not the only one responsible, but he's an equal contributor as are all the other members of those teams. Keep your judgement on hold till end of next year since if he is just dancing to Dhoni's tune' date=' it should be Dhoni who turned the great squad into ordinary but saying Fletcher is responsible is stupid.[/quote'] Dhoni is equally responsible, perhaps even more than the coach. But the coach should also have brought about some change in the playing 11 when the team was constantly getting hammered in Eng and Aus. Why do we pay big bucks to these foreign coaches??? Just so that they can please all the senior players in the team and get favorable opinions in return?? That is precisely what has happened here. The coach doesn't interfere with team selections and lets Dhoni and all the senior players run the show. They put up one poor performance after another. Finally, a new selection committee has to interfere and drop these seniors from the team. The coach could have easily made some changes. There were 2 reserve batsmen in the team that went to Australia - Rohit and Rahane. Neither of them got a match despite the team getting hammered in every match. Don't you think the coach could have interfered and got these players a game? Don't you think the coach could have tried something different - modify the batting order or something? Don't you think the coach being part of the team management is equally responsible for these losses?? Any other coach would have got a kick on his backside. Only in India, we hail mediocrity.
Texan Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 the bottomline is there have been plenty of changes. Its not as if india are playing with the same team as the 8-0 loss. Most of the changes have been brought about by retirements. The new selection committee has also made some changes that are positive and forward-looking. However, when we take 17-man squads on these tours, what happens is that all the senior players take up all the slots in the team available and juniors are only looked at as replacements in the event of an injury. What should have happened is we should have made changes after 0-2 itself. Maybe then, we might not have lost the 6 other matches we ended up losing.

Since, the presence of these players were attributed to "no changes by Fletcher" the absence of these players should also be attributed to him unless you can prove otherwise.

Yes - Sehwag (ODIs/Tests), Gambhir, Zaheer , Yuvraj (Tests), Raina (Tests) have been due to retirements.
