Australia making tough decisions after 0-2. What did India do after 0-8?

Now, I agree the actions the Aus team management took were really stupid, but at least they are making efforts to tell the team that a performance like that is unacceptable. What did the great Indian team management do while they were losing 8 Tests in a row away from home and then also losing a home series?? They didn't even drop a single non-performing batsman when the team was losing all those matches away from home. They had batsmen in reserve (Rahane, Rohit in Aus) that were only used for serving drinks. This, despite the success of Kohli. It was all the more reason to try new batsmen. This attitude of giving permanent spots to senior batsmen has cost us dearly and will continue to cost us!

C urious to know this, lets say the 4 players involved were Jhonson, Pattinson, Siddle and Starc, the 4 pacers, would the Aussies have done the same as they have now? Or Lets say instead of 4, there were 7-8 players involved, would the reaction be the same?

+1 I think people fail to realise that the indian team has a lot of changes in it. Sehwag Gambhir Zaheer appear to be dropped , in some cases for good. Dravid and Laxman have retired. Yuvraj and Raina finally appear to be axed atleast by Sandeep Patil. Thats quite a turnover of players.

Correct. It's just that since the goras do it, we love it. I remember the hue and cry when Pathan was sent back from the 2006 SA tour. He was woefully out of form and was sitting idle. Vengsarkar along with the team mgmt, made it a point to send hjim back so as to play Ranjis/domestic. This is nowehre close to that in case of cricketing logic. Yet, I find people applauding it.

agree. I think its fair to say Chikka and his panel sat on their asses and did jack all. The Sandeep Patil panel atleast seems ready to make the difficult decisions.

Wrong. It all started because they were two down. Question is what initiatives did our team and management take not whether we went down the exact path of the Aussies.

From the playing XI that toured England, only Dhoni and Sachin remain. That's proof enough of the measures taken by the team management. Still not good enough, it took too long, but at least it's something.

Harbhajan was dropped and later returned. Ishant didn't play in England series. He was just selected. He played in AUS series though. Kohli played in Australia and Ojha didn't play in ENG or Aus.

Exactly as you said, it took too long.

What Aussies have shown is that they're prepared to make tough decisions. They made all their players think about everything they did wrong. The difference is that all Dhoni chirped about after this defeat is about how his players were trying to cope up with conditions and what were the positives, but not at any point did he say that this kind of performance is unacceptable and warrants changes.

Dravid and Laxman left at their will. How can you credit the team management for that change??? After 0-8, nothing changed. Sehwag, Gambhir, Zaheer were all in the team that played against England and lost. Selection committee headed by Patil at least appears to be making changes. Shrikkanth's team just played regional politics and did no real selection.

Yes, exactly. Shrikkanth panel was only interested in regional politics and making safe decisions.

BCCI will never ask for his retirement because nobody in the BCCI has the guts t do that. This is not Australia where an out-of-form Steve Waugh can be dropped despite being a highly respected cricketer. This is India, where we worship idols and believe that they can do no wrong. If Sachin were to choose to play Tests for another 5 years, BCCI will just play along.

You can't seriously compare Australia with India as cricketing nations. Australia is the most successful cricket nation of all time, whereas India is seventh out of eight major teams on the all time win/loss ratio in Tests - only NZ is behind us and they are a tiny country in which rugby is the main sport. Australia are going through a tough phase but will eventually come out of it, as they always do. India will always wallow in mediocrity with bursts of success when we find some talented players. When the objective of our administrators is solely to use cricket to make money that is bound to happen. In no other country would a captain have been retained after losing 0-8 and home series but the fact that captain is the blue eyed boy of the BCCI boss is far, far more significant than how awful his captaincy has been.
