Straight Drive Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 The LV=CC 2013 division one and division two kicks off on 10th of April, 2013. Warwickshire will look to defend their 2012 title with a very strong bowling attack. They have a very good team this time as well with no retirements as such. There have been some good transfers happening in recent months and quite a few county teams are touring overseas in lead up to the seasons matches. Offcourse the inclement weather will be a part and parcel of this season as well. ECB have announced two major decissions: (1)The heavy roller and (2) Declaration bowling banned The first one is a surprise and unexpected, however, the second decision probably came up due to the way many matches progressed in LVCC2012 season. afaik, Murali Karthik is probably the only Indian cricketer playing in county champs. He is signed with Somerset. He will be looking to have as good a season as he had last year. The County fixtures are clashing with the IPL, Champions Trophy, The Tri-series in WestIndies and few others.

Derbyshire who were promoted from Divison 2 to Division 1 after 2012 champs, have signed prolific WestIndies batsman Chanderpaul. Madsen continues to be their captain. I would have liked to see them sign some international pace bowler as well. Derbyshire are playing a 2 day friendly with Nprthamptonshire which started yesterday. Chesney Hughes scored unbeaten 109 (retd hurt). Billy Godleman who made a move from Essex to Derbhyshire could not convert his start into a score of substance. Matt Spreigel, the new Northants signing played a decent knock. Both teams had a good practice in this match. It does seems that Derbyshire will open their bowling innings with the same pair of Groenewald and Palladino. Durham will miss the seasoned pro Blackie, who has retired from first Class cricket. He fell on the shoulder and had an operation which did not help him much. They are probably eying Saffer Jacques Rudolph. Graeme Smith has signed with Surrey on a 3 year deal. That a huge signing. Ricky Ponting who scored a 100 for Tassies in the ongoing match with Vicoria in the Sheffield Shield has also signed for Surrey. Alviro Petersen has signed up with Somerset and is available for them until the FLt20 kicks off. Worcestershire were relegated from Div to Div 2. SriLankan test veteran , Samaraweera who has retired from test cricket has signed with Worcestershire in an effort to boos the team. Somerset is likely to go with the same bowling attack this year. i don't think they will sign any international bowler for this season.

He bowled one at 92mph at the age of 18 at ECB Academy at Loughborough. He bettered Freddie and Harmisson's speed records when they were tested at the same palce before.

Mark Ramprakash tells us you were the fastest bowler he’d faced for some time in county cricket. How did you get on against him? I didn’t bowl that much to him actually, I think we got him out quickly. He didn’t get many runs in either innings. It was a bit awkward because the way he shapes up to a left-armer is a bit different to the way he shapes up to a right-armer, so it was a bit off putting at first, but I did okay and I’d like to think I held my own. Any other big names you’ve enjoyed the challenge of bowling to so far in your career? I made my debut against Sri Lanka so I was running in at Kumar Sangakkara and I think I went quite well against him. He didn’t take me on and he showed me a bit of respect so I was quite happy with how that went. Did your selection for the EPP and then the Lions come as a surprise? Yeah, it was a big shock. I was in my initial programme of strength and conditioning at Loughborough and set to go to Chennai in the New Year [with the Potential EPP] when I got a call from Paul Grayson saying Ajmal Shahzad had to have surgery and they’d selected me to take his place. Come January, I will have gone from from being on the Essex academy and having played about four second team games to playing for the Lions in the space of a year. What’s the Chelmsford pitch like to learn your trade on? This year it did a bit throughout the season, it offered swing a lot which was quite nice. And obviously bowling with Dave Masters you learn a lot. Chelmsford is a good place to learn in general. I struggled a bit from one end so that’s something I want to work on. It’s not the easiest place to bowl, the boundaries are small, but it’s not like Taunton where the bowler doesn’t get anything. Strength and conditioning is obviously a key part of training for fast bowlers now. Is the potential for injury something that concerns you? I wouldn’t say I’ve got a fear of injury, I think it’s part and parcel now with the amount of stress you put through your body. I’m not exactly the lightest on my feet so I’ve got a lot of forces going through my body but I haven’t had a major injury yet. I had a little bit of a back problem last season but that was just because I bowled more overs than I’d ever bowled before. You’ve just got to listen to the coaches’ recommendations, work hard and get yourself in the best shape to give yourself the best chance of staying injury free. And outside of the game, you’re in the process of completing a degree in journalism? Yeah, I’m in my second year now and I was full-time but obviously with my cricket commitments I’ve had recently and what’s coming up in the new year with the Lions tour, I’ve been struggling to balance my time. I’ve tried to give it a go but realistically it wasn’t really feasible so I’m deferring this coming year and I hope to go back in September if I’m not so busy. He played for England in Under 19 WC and definitely played a few county champ matches in later half of 2012 season. He is very much part of the second 11 at Essex . Willouhbouy has retired. His buddy Reece Topley bowled better. So maybe he will get to feature in more county matches this season. Essex have a very inexperienced bowling lineup this season.

I think he touched 150 kph in the India series. Probably in the T20 match. I think Umesh and Varun will loose pace now that they are coming back from injuries.

Umesh suffered more serious back injury than this 2009 even before he has debuted, this is his 2nd injury. This is Aaron's 4th back stress injury.
