Predator_05 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 But one thing I got to agree with you would be the fact that the Tendulkar or Dravid would not have replicated Yuvi's actions (waving of bat ) against Flintoff the other day . The thuggery element is missing in them . That is because Yuvraj and co. and guys like Tendulkar are from different generations. So it's natural that they would behave differently. Sledging was never a part of Indian cricket (when Tendulkar and later Dravid arrived) until it became popularized as kids picked it up on TV during the 90's.
The Outsider Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Over to you. Since you have already said that you are not concerned about the batting results but about gaali galloch, bat swinging, chect thumping etc., I am not really interested in taking the argument any further. Those things are completely irrelevant to me, if I find them so exciting I'll start following the national kabaddi team and we can continue this discussion then.
Lurker Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 What's the big deal about aggression anyway? I reckon we have fallen for the hype generated by our neighbours about meat, aggression, Pathanisms, Punjabisms, etc. This is rubbish, IMO. The greatest fast bowlers and batsmen never said much- just let their bat or ball do the talking- Richards, Lara, Tendulkar, Marshall, Ambrose, Imran come to the mind. That is quite ignorant a statement Dhondy. Without asking where the supporters of aggression are coming from it is downright stupid to assume it is an influence of neighbours, meat eating and all that cr@p. You mention Viv Richards. lets talk of Viv, shall we? When Tony Greig(English captain) mentioned how he shall make Windies "grovel", Richards had famously replied "No one talks to Viv like that" and then slammed 829 runs@119. He didnt wait for the series to end and then go all high and mighty with a "I let my bat do the talking". You talked of Ambrose. When Steve Waugh sledged him Ambrose had stepped right to Steve Waugh's face ready to rip his heart out. Had it not been for Richie Richardson Steve Waugh would have been a dead man. Why listen to me, ask Steve. He mentions in his book how Ambrose put the fear of life in him. You talk of Marshall. This is the same guy who once chided his Joel Garner for being too soft and kind. Alan Border after being felled by a Garner bouncer got up and called Joel a "black bxxastard". Marshall mentions how he always wished Border would try it again so he would cut out his throat. Read his autobiography please. Point being - Please read the players you are talking of here. And for God sake move SRT out of that lot. Aggression you have to feel inside. You don't have to make a show of it. I think Sachin is one of the most aggressive batsman I've ever seen. At his pomp, the bowler didn't know where to pitch to him. Aggressive like what? Like this.. And stop manufacturing facts or words. Gaali galojh and all that cr@p. A better line would be to agree to disagree and I am fine with that. But stop putting words in my mouth which have not even been uttered.

Lurker Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 But one thing I got to agree with you would be the fact that the Tendulkar or Dravid would not have replicated Yuvi's actions (waving of bat ) against Flintoff the other day . The thuggery element is missing in them . Yes Sir it is. And if history has taught us anything it is that it takes all sorts. Let me give an example. By most accounts Sunil Gavaskar was one of the top 3 batsman of 70s/80s. At the same time there was another batsman Miandad who is not reckoned as good as Sunny but considered one of the all-time greats. So when Dennis Lillee compiled his list of great batsman who did he pick in his top 5? Surprise surprise it was Miandad. It had little to do with his cricketing skills as it had to do with his street-fighting. When Gavaskar had an issue with Lillee what did he do? Well sulked and then walked off(along with Chetan Chauhan). Till date his record is chequered and he admits his mistake. When Miandad was faced with incident with Lillee what did he do? Raise the bat and was about to hit the jacka$$ before umpire Harper stepped in. That act won aussie adulation and sometimes you have to realize the nature of the beast you are dealing with. xxx
Bumper Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 With all due respect ' date=' I think you are being too harsh on Tendulkar and Dravid . You have to be mentally strong to have away average more than home in test cricket. And coupled with the fact that this average is over 50 for both Tendulkar or Dravid , the question begs , why question their mental approach. And like other posters who have already alluded to this fact , Tendulkar of 90's would intimidate bowlers with his bat not mouth. More often than not , he would come better off in his duels with the bowlers. Heck , he was able to silence garrulous Aquib Javed or Warne or in the case of Dravid , he was able to shut up the great Allan Donald in SA of all the places when being sledged. I think you are justified to question the leadership skills of Dravid compared to Dhoni who does appears to be calm and collected more in the Steve Waugh mold , that's about it. But to suggest that the big three were not aggressive enough , is being tad bit too harsh imo. But one thing I got to agree with you would be the fact that the Tendulkar or Dravid would not have replicated Yuvi's actions (waving of bat ) against Flintoff the other day . The thuggery element is missing in them .[/quote'] What is common between Bridgetown'97, BG trophy'04, Bangalore'05, Durban '06, Capetown'06 to name a few ? A meek, submissive cave in!

But stop putting words in my mouth which have not even been uttered. Well gaali galloch is what you expected Tendulkar to indulge in, rather than smile and get on with the game in the video you have been posting, right? And you have clearly said you don't want to talk about the bottom lines ie. runs and wickets but other paraphernalia more relevant to a kabaddi field.
Predator_05 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Thanks for the certification Mr. Know All (cannot remember Jack :haha:). I was almost dying for your approval' date=' you know![/quote'] Yeah, i am sure you were dying for my approval...as opposed to now, when you are just dying...:haha: You remember jack about what transpired yesterday and heap bull dust here on what u witnessed 8 years ago.:haha: Which is good, because that was the point i chose to address. You obviously were a very weak adversary, given the fact that you are a Johnny Come Lately who didn't know cricket existed until that glorious year of 2004 I feel like i am debating an amnesia hit Indian fan! I'd rather be an Indian than a p@ki...
Lurker Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Well gaali galloch is what you expected Tendulkar to indulge in, rather than get on the game in the video you have been posting, right? What I expected Tendulkar to do was to be a man and stand up for himself. The more I speak with fans like you on this subject the more I realize why Indian cricketers are Momma's boy, because fans like you love to be their Momma and fight for them. And so after the game the Indian MBs would be flooded with a "Why is Ponting not banned", "White folks are racist", "Why was Mcgrath not fined". While the character in the center, Sachin ramesh tendulkar, sulked and walked off. So spare me this highground again if I am not willing to be their Mom. And you have clearly said you don't want to talk about the bottom lines ie. runs and wickets but other paraphernalia more relevant to a kabaddi field. Yes I have. In my book life is not a series of 0 and 1, there is lot more to it. SRT might have scored a lot of runs, as has Dravid, but what players like Yuvraj, Dhoni have done is to put the fear of India in other teams, if only for 20/20. Why only the other day Ian Chappell said how if he had to sum up Dhoni it would be "no-fear cricketer". Thats what I want my team to be made of. xxxx

kumble_rocks Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Yes Sir it is. And if history has taught us anything it is that it takes all sorts. Let me give an example. That act won aussie adulation and sometimes you have to realize the nature of the beast you are dealing with. xxx He may not be on Dennis Lilee's top 5 compiled list , but I wouldn't be exaggerating if I say that Gavasker would be ahead of Miandad on lot more top 5 lists compiled by others. Cricket was a considered a gentleman's game and I still want it to be like gentleman's game. Analogy would be to golf :D, which again is considered a gentleman's game wherein rules and etiquettes are expected to be followed in a gentlemanly way. Now, Tiger Woods is one of the most aggressive and mentally strong athlete I have ever seen . But does he indulge thuggery , Never. But , I can understand where you are coming from. But , I strongly feel that aggressive behavior exhibited by most Indian players which includes the likes of karthik and Yuvi are reciprocative in nature which is perfectly fine with me. Heck , I still remember Yuvi shoulder arming Umar Gul in the last tour . The same is not the case with idiots like Afridi , Nel , Gul and yes our own Sreesanth. This guy acts like a jerk and his behavior should not be condoned in my humble opinion.

I challenge you to find posts of mine on the lines of "White Folks are racists", "XYZ was not banned" etc. So until you do that keep your attempt at categorizing me to yourself. Tendulkar has received more than his share of sledges in his career, he has answered them with his bat to the extent that the Aussies are on record saying they would never try to sledge Tendulkar or Lara. Does that mean anything to you? Probably not, because you seem more interested in watching kabaddi.
Predator_05 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Jeez you are getting desperate' date=' you replied to your own post :hysterical:[/quote'] Hey, it's not my fault that you can't use the quote facility. I would think that since you have been admin for this long, you would at least know how to reply to a post but obviously an arduous task such as clicking "quote" instead of "edit" is beyond you. I suppose staring at a screen all day reading match-reports must have had a debilitating effect on your eyesight...:haha:
Bumper Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Alright folks, i think am done here. Have said what i wanted to say. The thread as expected has spiralled out of its original scope, the moment Tendulkar entered the debate. Whether he is a hit man in real life or not is moot, he really nets the biggest hits on WWW
Lurker Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I challenge you to find posts of mine on the lines of "White Folks are racists"' date=' "XYZ was not banned" etc. So until you do that keep your attempt at categorizing me to yourself. The man who talks hosanas about Dravid-Slater incident only to become a Mickey Mouse later on? Thus far you were the first one to mention how Dravid was aggressive when it came to Slater incident and then became a little girl afterwards. What happened there Shwetabh? As for you being racist and stuff like that dont blame me if you miss forest for tree. The issue is fans like you doing what SRT should be doing - fighting his own battles. Dont get frustrated at me simply because SRT and Dravid come across as second best when it comes to aggression. xxx
Gambit Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 The Tendulkar bashing continues even when he isn't playing. Classic revisionism at work as well. Anyway, coming back to the OP, I think Sreesanth is two sandwiches short of a picnic. The psycho was goading Hayden AND Symonds when Hayden came out as a runner. Those two are absolute beasts and yet Sreesanth was giving it to them. What a (mental) legend! :hysterical: :bird:
Predator_05 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Thank god for this thread - it took my mind off tomorrow's match. Man, India vs Pakistan - the final of a World Championship...i am getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
